Mischief Fragment - Replay: Little Naruto? [Episode 230300]

by Kestral

Time rewound, reset.

The Yondaime survived, having been hit over the head by his wife when he'd made the assumption that she didn't know what he was going off to do.

Kushina Uzumaki knew enough to do the deed, sealing the ninetailed demon fox into her child, but as she was already dying didn't think of it particularly as a sacrifice. In HER estimation this was more making sure that her child had at least one parent.

A butterfly flapping its wings was said to be able to change the course of destiny. If so, this particular butterfly was related to Mothra.

Four years later:
"Who's that kid?" asked four-year-old Sakura, seeing a little boy running along the rooftops, making impossibly long leaps and acrobatic flips.

"Him? Oh, that's the son of the Hokage, Naruto Namikaze," said Sakura's mother. "He's your age, you know. He's also the sacrifice-boy, by sealing the ninetailed demon fox inside him, the village is kept safe."

"Ohhhh," said Sakura. "He jumps so high!"

"Yes, he does," said Sakura's mother. "One day he'll be a splendid ninja."

"So will I!" declared Sakura.

"Well, we'll see about that," said Sakura's mother skeptically. "Didn't you want to be a dollmaker yesterday?"

"That was yesterday," Sakura solemnly informed her mother.

"We've got the kid, now all we need to do is get out of here!" said the lead ninja, holding the bound-and-gagged little girl up.

THWICK! went a kunai, managing to go completely through the kidnapper's arm and bury itself in the forehead of another ninja.

"Not so fast, evil-doers!" declared a four year old boy as he dropped to the path in front of them. "You won't get away with this with ME here?"

"You're just a four year old kid by yourself," sneered the kidnapper. "Here, catch!"

The little boy fell for the trick, catching the little girl thrown at him and going down under the weight.

Grinning, the kidnapping party (except for the one writhing on the ground) leapt forward.

"Ahem," said someone with an ANBU mask, appearing out of the shadows.

"What she said," said another ANBU.

"Ditto," said a third ANBU.

"Likewise," said a fourth ANBU.

"Indeed," said a large black wolf-dog with an eyepatch.

"Gee, you guyses luck sucks," said the little boy as he began using a kunai to cut through ropes and free the little girl. "I was just playing tag with the ANBU squad. (It's good training, you know.) Gee, you're cute. Hi, I'm Naruto."

The little girl stared at the boy who'd freed her, blinked a couple of times, then grabbed him and started crying. Which made absolutely no sense to the little boy in question, of course.

Three years later:
"All right, we get our revenge on the Yondaime by killing his heir," said the Rock Ninja. "The Uchiha compound is extremely wealthy, so we'll start there - you bandits will provide the distraction we need to get in and out. Kill EVERYONE you run across, got it?"

"These crossbows will work on them?" asked one of the bandits.

"They'll try to copy your jutsu, except you don't have none," pointed out the ninja. "Then these poisoned bolts will kill them deader than dead. Stick to the plan."

"Where is the kid, with the Uchiha?" asked one of the bandits.

"No," said the Rock Ninja. "The Uchiha are also the police, and if Naruto needs to flee to a safe house - that's likely where he'd go. Destroy the safe house and he's got no refuge if he manages to escape the initial assault."

"I don't understand girls," complained Naruto, throwing a kunai.

"Girls are trouble," said Sasuke as he threw his own kunai.

"The wires on these really throw off the aim," complained Naruto.

"That's the point of practicing," pointed out Sasuke. "See!"

Naruto made a face as Sasuke's score continued to better his own.

"When both of you can hit the centers consistently, I'll show you the lightning jutsu to use, not before," said the Hokage, looking up from his paperwork.

"Yeahhhhhhhh," complained the two boys, who'd prefer to learn the jutsu NOW.

"So, Dad," asked Naruto. "Can you explain girls? I don't get 'em."

"That's good of you to realize Naruto," said Naruto's father. "What exactly is a girl doing you don't understand?"

"Well, it's Hinata," complained Naruto. "If I see her, she's always looking away and fiddling with her fingers. She's always hiding nearby and watching me. And when I say something nice to her, she panicks and hides her face. It's weird."

"Girls are trouble," repeated Sasuke.

"Well, if it's Hinata, have you tried inviting her to play or practice?" asked the Hokage.

"She doesn't seem to like me," complained Naruto.

"It might be that she hides because she likes you," explained the Hokage.

Naruto considered that. "Girls are weird."
