Mikoto Uchiha was not going to voice her disapproval of the Uchiha Uprising, as that would be undercutting her husband publicly. What she WAS doing was avoiding her husband and her troublesome clan members by being elsewhere during one of their gatherings.
Her husband, Fugaku Uchiha, was the clan head and leader of the uprising. She let him know, in private, that she disagreed with the Uprising and any association with That Man. Who might have been a legendary shinobi and Sharingan-master, but she felt he was a bit of a nihilist. Also it was admittedly her opinion there, but she felt that following the word of a nihilist was not a terribly intelligent thing to do.
So she was here with her son, at the Hokage Tower's courtyard, watching her son throw kunai with the son of the Yondaime, and simply let herself be a chaperoning mother as the meeting went on. She was also doing some embroidery, feeling some comfort in the artistic pursuit even if it wasn't (as Sasuke would put it) very "ninja-ey" an activity.
So she kept an eye on the Hokage, who as far as she knew had no idea what was going on in the Uchiha compound. She also kept an eye on her son, whose best friend/rival was clumsier and prone to emotional outbursts.
"It might be," said the Hokage to his son, "that she hides because she likes you."
"Girls are weird," decided Naruto.
Mikoto wasn't using a Sharingan, but could see a bush jerk abruptly. Letting a faint smile appear on her face, she decided to have some fun and try to make this Educational as well. "But she's cute, right Naruto?"
"Well, yeah, she is kind of cute," allowed Naruto. "You'd think if she wants to be friends, she'd just come out and say so though."
"Girls are troublesome," said Sasuke with as much weight as he could.
"Hinata-chan?" said Mikoto, addressing the bush. "Would you step out please?"
That bush suddenly shook. A little girl backed out of the bush, turned to flee, and ran directly into the knees of an ANBU who'd decided that hiding in a bush and spying on the Hokage was not something to encourage.
"EEP!" said Hinata.
Mikoto watched with amusement as the little girl was brought into the practice session. Naruto went into his "friendship no jutsu" technique, trying to calm the shy girl down and draw her out. Sasuke grumped a bit at first, but wasn't above giving the girl a few pointers on kunai-throwing. Senbon throwing was a little trickier - the needles tended to deflect easily in any sort of breeze.
Still, it was something.
The explosion that could be heard as far away as the Hokage tower, and the subsequent rain of debris, kind of killed the mood after that.
Age 10:
Three years had passed since the Uchiha Massacre.
Sasuke sulked as his big brother went off to his ANBU duties, wearing the Owl mask.
"If you really want to sulk, I'll start scheduling those omiai," said Mikoto, rewarded by Sasuke flinching.
Sasuke responded by running off to the Academy without further grumpiness.
Actually it was nice that Sasuke made friends. Not only the Hokage's son either.
Well, it could have been worse. As it was:
