"Dragon," said Hiashi Hyuga thoughtfully.
"Yes," said Jeanne. "Fairly cute and imperfect. The body was less thin, more bulky. Five clawed talon-hands. I expect that when he's older, he'll be able to manifest flight. I expect that you might know something of dragons yourself, Lord Hyuga?"
"The idea that the Hyuga blood limit was developed because of an Imperial Dragon in our ancestry is a myth," said Hiashi Hyuga. "Interesting, perhaps. Fanciful, certainly. True, hardly."
"So he can manifest as a hatchling dragon?" asked Chouza Akimichi. "Hope that doesn't mean he'd eat like one."
"Like he'd be any competition to you anyway," said the Nara clan head smiling at his friend.
"Well, of course," admitted Chouza.
Four years later:
"Okay, let me see if I understand everything," said Hiashi Hyuga. "The Kumo delegation kidnapped my daughter, escaped the Hyuga compound, but was intercepted by a couple of kids."
"Naruto needed practice with using his senses as a dragon," said Kuromaru, dog partner to Tsume Inuzuka. "The rest of the gang just seemed to show up."
Kiba, Ino, Sakura, and Choji all nodded. Shikamaru just sighed and muttered something about what a pain this all was.
"Even if their main contribution was running in all directions, raising an alarm. At which point Naruto pounced on the lead ninja, grabbed Hinata, and flew towards the Inuzuka compound," continued Hiashi Hyuga, massaging the bridge of his nose as if he had a headache.
A giggle from overhead broke the momentary silence.
"Yes," said Tsume Inuzuka, "that was when Naruto acted as if he was tiring, causing the Kumo ninja team to charge into... a place they were not well received."
"Not my fault," said a voice from way overhead.
"Yes it WAS," insisted Tsume Inuzuka.
"A hot tub party and barbeque," said Hiashi Hyuga.
"Hey, I make a MEAN barbeque," said Chouza.
"He totally does," agreed Tsume. "Those spare ribs in particular."
"Getting back to the diplomatic incident," said Hiashi, who then turned his attention skyward. "Hinata! Get DOWN from there."
"Awwwwwwwwwww," said the little girl riding dragonback.
"This is totally and completely..." Hiashi interrupted himself with a sigh. "Oh bother with it. Is that beer cold?"
