Mischief Fragment - Replay: A matter of (draconic) perception [Episode 230961]

by Kestral

Naruto got stuck in his dragon form every so often. It then required a peculiar sort of relaxing something within him in order to shift back. On consulting via mail with Jeanne, who was apparently on another continent nowhere near the Five Shinobi Nations, it was told to the Hokage that normally that wouldn't be a problem due to a low chakra threshold which would be crossed, resulting in the transformee changing back to human normally. With the fox sealed away within him, Naruto didn't have that particular safety feature.

Which ended up with him falling asleep and changing back.

Some of the elders involved knew about this. Some of the elders involved found something going on which caused further distancing of the view of Naruto as the demon-fox and more acceptance that he was the prison instead.

His dragon form was very distinctive and had no foxy elements after all. It was a serpentine oriental dragon, though a little bulky in the chest. Which showed three different elemental affinities in its chakra. Wind, Water, and Lightning.

So when Hiashi Hyuga realized that his eldest daughter was lying in the afternoon sun in a garden, her bed being the serpentine coils of a dragon, he did NOT use the Gentle Fist on the intruder.

Hiashi just waved over one of the branch family members, set the young branch house boy in question to watching Hinata, and to summon him when the intruder changed back to a seven-year-old boy. THEN he'd throw the intruder out.

Just because he understood what was happening, and that Hinata apparently liked the dragon-boy, didn't mean he was altogether happy about this. He also understood Naruto's unspoken point, which was that Hinata was someone he could relax around. Someone who made him feel comfortable, and therefore someone he could relax around on those occasions when he was stuck.

He knew all that. That didn't mean he was going to encourage things.

In order for Hinata to become the clan heir, she would have to be strong. A warrior. Ruthless. Fearless. Ready to do what was necessary with a hardened heart.

Except that didn't appear to be the way Hinata was developing. Maybe the dragon-boy wasn't the source of that weakness, but he certainly wasn't encouraging her to be strong and independent.

Hiashi paused at the door to the dojo, glancing back at the sleeping pair. Maybe the Hokage could forbid this friendship from developing. It was for Hinata's own good, after all.

"So he's got three elemental affinities, can fly, and may have some other talents," said one of the Uchiha. "He's SEVEN."

"When the coup occurs," said an Uchiha wearing a mask, "we will crush them all. The Kyubi within him is of no threat. Those with the Sharingan and the knowledge can shut him down. We will capture him before he can be a threat, extract the fox, and eliminate the threat of his bloodline."

"What threat?" asked the original speaker. "He's one child, and the Uzumaki clan for all the power of their bloodline were crippled by the weakness of that bloodline."

"What weakness?" asked another member of the clan.

"Their strength is related to the waxing and waning of the moon," said the masked conspirator. "They are weakest at the new moon, unable to change from whatever form they're in, at least until their chakra runs down below a certain threshold. They are their strongest at the full moon."

"So we should move the night of the coup to a moonless night," said the first conspirator. "Then we don't need to kill a seven year old who might be of use later."

"Holding off a few nights is permissable, but his capture and destruction is still a requirement," said the masked one.

One of the Uchiha frowned at that. After all, the dragonchild was her son's rival/friend!
