"When an elder god of mischief says that, it does not bode well," said a voice.
Naruto glanced over and saw a figure in a cloak with a peaked hood that somehow conveyed the head of a bird with a long beak in general shape.
"Ghost?" asked Toltiir, sounding surprised. "I didn't add you to this timeline did I?"
"You did, but three alterations ago," said Ghost.
"'Ghost' as in a ghost?" asked Naruto.
"Well," said Ghost, "technically you're dead and talking - so you're a ghost yourself."
"Ghost is an analogue, sort of a copy," explained Toltiir. "Someone I observed awhile back while concerned with someone else entirely."
"In this world, I'm a ninja, tokubetsu jonin level," said Ghost. "Information specialist. Konpaku is my usual name, homeless-nin for hire."
"This is Naruto Uzumaki," said Toltiir with a wave of his paw. "Carrier of the Ninetailed Fox unless he wants to say he'll take the Tentails."
"I wouldn't," said Ghost. "You had enough trouble with the Nine, didn't you?"
"He's got a point," said Naruto to Toltiir.
"Fine fine," said Toltiir.
"What was the 'oops' anyway?" asked Naruto.
Toltiir's ears flicked back. "Oh, I just backtracked a change that eliminated the Hyuuga clan."
"WHAT?!" asked Naruto.
"They're now the Nekomimi clan," said Toltiir. "Instead of the Byakugan, they've got cat ears that give them exceptional and parabolic hearing, catlike eyes that give them excellent nightvision, small claws they can sharpen with chakra, and a tail of course."
"So... Hinata's not gone?" asked Naruto.
"No, she just looks a little different," said Toltiir. An eyeblink later and an image formed of a twelve-year old Hinata. Except her hair was longer. And she had cat ears. And a tail. And eyes that seemed to gleam purple.
"Oh," said Naruto, not sure how to handle that. "Well, how about if you do this-"
Naruto watched as things rapidly progressed on the other side of the mid-air window.
The clan heads went back after the fox deity was sealed, and word got out that the boy was the container for the fox deity that had stood alongside the Fourth Hokage and his wife. The fox was injured and barely holding onto life even with the seal. If it was widely known, eventually an assassin would find the boy and end his potential for becoming a hero of the Village. If it was widely known that he was the son of the Fourth Hokage, then the Earth Kingdom would be wanting to avenge their losses from the father on that son.
The kids still tended to shun him, but only because their parents knew something about the boy but wouldn't say what.
Things changed further though when:
