Restart: .hack//Reality [Episode 23178]

by gamlain

Japanese versions of 'The world' had been sold out in japan for nearly a year, due to under-production and several quality controll errors in the manufactre of the last printing, which had lead to lawsuits and the japanese production plant being shutdown; The print run before that had been far to small for demand - it had sold out in only a week, and so it was actually more like two.

The Re-release was greeted with great enthusiasm and a huge rush to game stores as fans of Online gameing packed them, trying to make certain they could reserve a copy.

Skuld, Norn or the present, had pre-ordered hers; She was looking very, very forward to actually getting into 'the world' - several of her friends online. As she skipped and giggled her way home towards the temple, arms full of gameing equipment, she had no concept of how much trouble she was about to unleash.

Across town her cheif enemy - Marller - was also chortling. A fresh copy of 'The world'. Did these mortals not realize that by projecting their minds into this fantasy world, they put their very souls at risk? Probably not, and Marller intended to take full advantage of that fact. She even had a perfect cover arranged - some of the fools she'd met in online chatrooms (it was amazeing how much evil you could stir up by subtly encourageing flame wars) had invited her to join their 'party' in The World.

A bit closer to downtown, Yaotouji Satsuki was bored. Extreemely bored. The 'Kamui' of the dragons of earth was taking his own sweet time about engageing his opposite number, and she was itching for something to do - which made 'The Word's most recent print run a welcome diverseion. It would allow her to learn more about her mystery friends as well - 'Ravenhair', 'Hellsdaughter' and 'Wired' had agreed to party with her to get past those 'inevitably difficult early levels - satsuki snickered evilly. Between her own abilities and the powers of 'Beast', to hack the server, there would be no difficulty for anyone but her enemies.

Iwuka Lain fiddled with her character Model; The mysterious emails had asked something different this time: 'The Wired' was no longer safe, so she was to come to 'The World' instead. Now though, she had friends from online to help a normally shy and retireing young lady (or was she? Sometimes, that other Lain..seemed so close..) fit in.

Four young women of not-at-all normal backgrounds continued to setup their new game; Meanwhile, what might have been a complicated, mysterious story about minds lost online and things that might or might not have been artificial intelligencess being sought for was shapeing up.

Shortly it was going to have four new players; And between their abilities and the accidental connection of Skuld's computer to both 'The world' And Yggdrasill at the same time - neither 'The world' nor the real world would ever be quite the same.
