If the others were around, they weren't nearby.
At which point the changes to her came fully into focus in a way her eyesight was not. Four feet, sensitive nose, decided lack of color vision.
It didn't take long to find a mountain stream and to find that she was a dog, a young puppy of perhaps a few months, but a dog nonetheless.
Breed was uncertain, she hadn't been "into" dogs prior to this event and was not able to tell immediately whether she'd be a little fu-fu dog or some huge mastiff. If she had to hope, she was hoping for the latter. Big dogs were at least more able to defend themselves.
The reincarnation hadn't gone quite as planned, Haruka realized. The sorcerer had clearly intended for them to be buried in the mindset of this new incarnation and with no memories of their previous life. Instead, she'd gotten her memories back after a few weeks of being reborn. How?
Whoo-whooo!
Haruka focussed on the sound. An owl. Waitaminute. That scent?
The owl clumsily flew down and scratched into the ground. "Setsuna."
Haruka found a paw was a clumsy writing instrument but finally managed something that mainly looked like her name.
Again the owl began scratching the ground. "Follow".
As soon as the owl began flying again, Haruka was after it, wondering if Setsuna-owl had any ideas how to get out of this situation. No speech, no transformation pens, and no hands to use them if they had them. While it might be satisfying to bite that kid if she saw him again, that wasn't what... (sniff sniff)... hmmm.
Just as the owl's scent somehow said "Setsuna", this other scent somehow conveyed a certain Ami-ness.
From the way the owl was circling up ahead, that meant that Ami was probably:
