Two eleven year olds on a hot summer afternoon, in a park not far from the Hokage tower, asleep on soft grass. There had been a childish innocence involved.
Despite the warmth of the day, she'd moved closer to the slumbering figure of her friend, and they'd touched.
Flashback:
The sewer had been bad, but the fresh breeze with its scents of sun-warmed grass and the occasional smell of fresh-baked bread had drawn her further.
Hinata went up the stairs and stopped to stare at the sights.
The immediate area around her was a training area with wooden practice dummies and targets.
Beyond that were shining fields of thick grass.
Beyond that, odd houses and towers. Sod roofs and thick lumber made up the houses, with an occasional chimney exuding thin trails of smoke or steam up into the chill air.
"CAW! So she's here at last!"
"CAW! So I see, so I see."
Hinata whipped around at the first 'caw' to stare at the two rather large ravens sitting atop a wooden rail fence.
"Took you long enough, caw!" said the amused-sounding first raven.
"That's quite enough," interrupted a more-feminine and gentle voice.
Hinata whipped around again, this time beholding a golden-haired woman in armor carrying a spear-scythe combination weapon of some kind.
"So, you're Hinata," said the woman with a soft smile. "Come, let us talk."
"Present":
"So we're pretty much stuck with a two-man team until a third member can be found?" asked Hinata.
"That's it," said Iruka. "You'll be assigned an instructor who can supervise and further train you."
"Who?" asked Naruto.
"That much I don't know," admitted Iruka Umino. "He or she should be arriving within an hour, the decision was made at a higher paygrade than mine."
"Ah," said Hinata, quite familiar with things like a 'chain of command' due to her own clan dealings.
After Iruka left, there was an uncomfortable silence for some time before Naruto finally spoke. "So, do you want to spar?"
Watching them at this point was their new instructor, curious about the new genin team placed under their care.
