"You want me to give you my news, or are you just going to invade my mind and take it youself?"
Eyes turned around to look at the small group of male Tomobiki students standing before them, a black haired youth standing before them.
Ryuha Kanzaki. As expected.
"What are you doing here?!" Shinobu asked as she moved in front of Hiromi. "Don't you have anything else better to do than bug us?!"
Ryuha snorted derisively, causing his blond companion, Shinya Hikawa, to start a little. "Bug you? How can I bug somebody who can atomise me where I stand? What do mere mortals have in the face of Gods?" Shinobu's eyes moved from Ryuha to his compatriots, who looked ready to flee the scene. Word of Hiromi's power had quickly spread across Tomobiki, if not Tokyo, and now only Mendou and the Stormtroopers, seized by increasing dementia, were the only people who dared to face her physically. None of them got far.
"Are you here to actually say anything, or are you just going to taunt us some more?" Chigaiko snarled. "If you all don't want to end up in the hospital, you'd better get out fast."
Almost all of the students scattered at those words, the laughter of the crowds following their heels. Ryuha and Shinya, out of the few remaining, watched them flee with a mixture of disdain and pity. More of the former for Ryuha and the latter for Shinya, of course.
"It's just as well." Ryuha said in a condescendingly smug tone. "They probably would've just been addition to the Moroboshi bitch's trail of corpses, anyway."
Silence descended, and a cold wind blew down the road. Shinobu could see the blood drain from Shinya's face, and the forces held within Hiromi spike.
"What did you just say?" Hiromi asked slowly.
"Oh, that's right!" Ryuha declared, in a mock-insulting tone. "You didn't get the news yet, didn't you! The message reached your parents, though. And everybody knows you don't live with them anymore, so of course you never got it!"
"Got what?!" Chigaiko demanded. "What are you talking about?!" Hiromi remained silent and still, stony still since Ryuha's last words.
Ryuha's face turned into a cold, emotionless mask. He drew out a small, hand written piece of paper. "I'm talking about this. It reached the Moroboshi home just yesterday."
He threw the note towards Hiromi, spinning through the air like a frisbee, to be plucked from the air and unfolded. Hiromi's eyes scanned the paper... And abruptly froze, as the blood drained from her face.
"Your parents trusted me with it. They knew you'll never listen to them. Mendou or the Stormtroopers would probably either go catatonic, or full psychotic. And your two ladyfriends here probably wouldn't trust them either."
Shinobu and Chigaiko scanned the note as well:
My Dearest Darling,
From the moment that you grabbed my horns, and you said those words that you never intended to say to me... I truly believed that you had meant to help me, to give me happiness that not even my family or friends could ever give me. The happiness of being truly loved, for myself.
When we had those times, when we wouldn't scream at each other, trick each other or hurt each other, I could see that you had feelings for me, that you couldn't properly express to me, because something always managed to get in our way. I knew that, even when you chased other girls, even when you tried to resist my forcing you to love me, I could see in your eyes, when we were alone, that you honestly, deeply, truly loved me.
But on that day when the mushrooms grew over Tokyo, I searched for those same feelings from your eyes, that same feeling of love you had for me... and found nothing.
Nothing, as you crushed my horns and declared your intent to divorce. Nothing, as you accused Rupa of betraying you.
Nothing, as you threw us all to the Dragons.
Now I realise that you do not love me, and you desire to see me and my friends, and family driven away from you, to the point of murder.
You treat my love, given you fully as a part of my own soul, and you use it as a toy to be stepped upon and used for your own ends. If you truly never really loved me, then my soul is shattered forever, splintered shards at your feet, the body soon to die afterwards
My dearest Darling, because of what you've done to me, I cannot live in this world anymore. I could not bear to live the rest of my days a hollow soul, cored out by the only man I truly loved.
Goodbye my love.
Always, your Lum
"That note was found next to her body." Ryuha said quietly. Shinobu saw Hiromi flinch. "She had opened her veins in the bath. I hope to the gods that she lives. I really do." Ryuha slowly approached Hiromi, his eyes boring a hole through her. "Because if she isn't... Her blood is on your hands."
Ryuha shoved his hands into his pockets, turned around, and walked down the street, away from Hiromi. The eyes of the crowd all turned to focus on her, as she fell heavily to her knees, hot tears falling from her eyes.
And now...
