Upon hearing his mother's question, Ranma looked at Hotaru. 'Hota-chan, would you please tell my mother that the reason I'm not with Akane is that we hate each other?' he asked telepathically.
Nodding her head, Hotaru said, "Auntie Nodoka, Ranma says that the reason he's not with Akane is that they hate each other."
Nodoka blinked in surprise. "Hotaru-chan? How'd you grow so fast?"
"Silly Auntie Nodoka. I'm Sailor Saturn, remember?"
"Oh. Why are you dating my son and how do you know what he wants me to know?" asked Nodoka in chagrin while Ranma blinked in shock that she knew Hotaru's secret.
"If you look at Ranma's right ear, you'll get the answer to your first question. Besides, you said three years ago that if we both wanted to, we could date. The answer to your second question is easy to say but difficult to explain. It is this: telepathy."
Lookikng closely at Ranma, Nodoka asked, "Is all of this true?"
Recieving a nod from Ranma, she saw and heard his earring. "I see. You are Hotaru-chan's Knight. You really hate Akane?"
Ranma answers through Hotaru. "He says that he didn't at first. He actually just wanted to be her friend, but his stupid Old Man (his words, not mine) kept trying to push them together. The result was the opposite. Uncle Genma drove Ranma and Akane apart. It didn't help that Akane's the biggest closet case I've ever heard of (my words, not his). She bashes him for trying to get out of the grip of that Amazon Hussy (Akane's words, as well as mine), or for trying to tell his childhood friend that he only sees her as a sister, or for just existing! Because of all that, there is no room for any emotion other than hate between them."
Finally Nodoka noticed that Ranma hadn't said a word aloud. "Ranma, why won't you talk to me?"
Ranma answered, and Hotaru relayed verbatim. "I'm sorry mom, but I can't when I'm in uniform around the Senshi. Besides, doing it this way acts as a software patch for my footinmouthitis. With Hotaru telling people what I want known, there is much less chance to be misunderstood."
"The second sounds reasonable, but you shouldn't do that out of uniform. Hotaru-chan, is there any way to hook him up with some magic so that he both has some control over his curse and can transform like you do?"
"There is, but I'll have to speak with Moon before I can say whether it will be.... Do you know what his curse is?"
"Yes, but it's not my place to reveal it. If he wants you to know, he will tell or show you. By the way, what are your intentions with my son?"
"Matrimony, when he's ready. Please get him away from that family. They're slowly killing him."
"I'll see what I can do. I see my cousin Setsuna. She's headed this way, and she looks like she wants to tell us something."
