As Ranma watched the movie with Hotaru, one line of thought ran through his mind.
'I. Am. So. SCREWED. How am I gonna get away from tha loony bin Nerima fer long enough ta help Sailor Saturn? Hotaru's real nice, an' I don't wanna drag her inta my crazy life. In fact she's so nice that if she was older (or I was younger), I wouldn't mind bein' engaged ta her instead a' tha nutcases gals back in Nerima.'
Before he could resolve any of his misgivings, Ranma's train of thought was derailed by a most pleasant distraction: a fifteen year old Hotaru in suddenly too-small clothes grabbing him for a kiss that leaves no confusion as to how she feels about him.
Seeing Hotaru suddenly turn fifteen, Ami was so surprised that she dropped her popcorn. "Setsuna, did Hotaru just...?"
"If you're asking if she just grew to her true age and kissed her Knight, then yes." 'I wonder how he's going to take the news that he's been engaged to Hotaru for thirty years, far longer than the Tendo contract. Genma's going to be pissed that I've had a copy of Hotaru's contract notarized and on file with the government since the day he sold Ranma to me for hooking him up with my cousin Nodoka.'
While Ranma was at first very surprised by this forwardness, after a few seconds he began to like how the kiss was making him feel. 'This is tha best kiss I've ever got. She's not a bad kisser, but I gotta wonder if her folks're gonna kill me fer datin' her.'
Somehow picking up on Ranma's uneasiness, Hotaru froze. This prompts an understandable thought from Ranma. 'Hey! Why'd ya stop?'
This thought, having been accidentally sent directly at Hotaru, got through loud and clear. 'Ranma? Is that you?' asked Hotaru as she pulled back in shock.
At this point, Ranma was beginning to be seriously creeped out. 'This is too weird. Who else would I be?'
Upon "hearing" such a reply, Hotaru asked a question. 'Ranma, do you know who I am?'
Needless to say, this confused Ranma. 'Are you an aspect of my fractured psyche that has finally broken off from the rest?'
'No, Ranma. I'm your little Hotaru,' she sent, at the same time looking down at her new shape. 'Though I'm not so little any more.'
Looking her over, Ranma was inclined to agree. 'You got that right! Any ideas on how this happened?'
'I think it might be because you wished we were closer to the same age so that you could have me as your betrothed instead of the others who abuse you.'
'Not that. I kinda figured out on my own how ya grew. What I wanted to know is if you have any clues on tha telepathy.'
'Oh. I think that may be a side effect of you being my sworn Knight.'
'Ya mean so I can freak people out by knowin' what ya want without ya sayin' a word?'
Very good, Ranma. I think so. Did you hear any of what Sailor Pluto said in the park?'
'Yeah. She said somethin' about there bein' no such thing as a "Knight of Silence".'
Yes, she did. I think she was only half right. There was no Silent Knight until you put your earring in.'
'So I became this fictional Knight when I swore allegiance to you, and only you.'
'Yes, and because of our little prank, we've developed a telepathic bond that allows me to tell you what I want without alerting anyone else. Right now, I want to finish watching this movie.'
'That's good ta know. I just got one question.'
'What's that?'
'Why'd ya stop kissin' me?'
'Because I sensed that you were scared of something, and don't you dare deny it!'
'Of course I was scared! Ya were kissin' me, an' that's usually when Akane bashes me. Not ta mention that I was wonderin' how yer folks'll take this.'
'I think they're reacting just like any parents would when their daughter is about to get married.'
As soon as Hotaru relayed the "M word", Ranma's danger sense went off with a vengeance. Feeling Ranma tense, Hotaru turned to see...
