"Yes, do you know him?" asked Yugao.
"There were three alliances - sides of that war," said Naruto. "I was pulled from here by the Progressive Powers. I ended up hooking up with the Defensive Union. The third was the Prosperity Alliance. Kratos was with that one. Kratos The Godslayer, Kratos The War Machine, Kratos The Destroyer. I know OF him, but never met him."
"Well, apparently he's heard of you, 'Naruto the Maelstrom' - and decided to follow you here," said Yugao. "He impressed the Sandaime and Ibiki and has sworn to protect Konoha against all enemies."
"According to the stories," said Naruto. "He was someone else the Progressives grabbed. They said something to the effect of him being their slave, and he broke out of the cage they'd put him in, leaving a line of slaughter behind him, until he hooked up with the Alliance."
"Ah," said Yugao, resuming their walk. "Apparently he thrives on combat, and figured that we could provide situations where he could indulge."
"If Kratos is on our side, then the other nations are going to be worried the first time he cuts loose," said Naruto. "Once I passed through an area he'd fought in. It wasn't pretty."
Last evening:
"As long as you keep faith with me, I shall keep faith with you," said Kratos. "I have been betrayed by gods, titans, men, and spirits. I am not their slave, nor their tool to be used and discarded whenever it is convenient. I am a weapon, and I demand the respect due one."
"Well," said the Sandaime, looking at where Kakashi and Maito Gai were both unconscious, "you've definitely proven your combat abilities."
"They were tougher than I expected," admitted Kratos grudgingly. "Had they fought together, I might have been pressed to defeat them."
Hiruzen Sarutobi nodded, getting the feeling that the two jonin had just been given resounding praise. "Very well, Ibiki was impressed by you, and the Yamanaka verified your sincerity."
"Just because I am an aspect of war does not mean that I do not value times of peace," said Kratos, as he went around picking up weapons. "For a refuge from the tides of war, particularly unnecessary war, I am willing to take the oaths to make this my new home."
"Provisional then," said the Sandaime. "How do you feel about being a teacher?"
Kratos considered the Hokage, leader of this place, and saw through the offer. Not only would he teach the arts of war to students, but the students would be keeping an eye on him. How well he performed his duties would be a test of his resolve. "Very well."
"So this guy is going to be my jonin overseer?" asked Naruto.
"And you'll be reporting to the Hokage regarding his performance," added Yugao.
"Huh," said Naruto. "Who else? Three genin to a squad, so who else is going to be in this team?"
Yugao drew a small scroll out of a pocket. "The third member is still being approached. Your genin squad at present consists of yourself, Kratos, and-"
