Oh yes, said the cat. The Senju and Uzumaki families are related if you go back a handful of generations - so all it takes is flicking a little genetic switch, sort of like creating a whirlpool in the gene pool. Then you'd be able to learn to manipulate wood when a triggering event occurs.
"Well that might be handy," said Naruto as he thought about being able to make ladders whenever he wanted.
Not that it doesn't bring up other possibilities that could be used instead, said the cat thoughtfully. Since Wood is the combination of Earth and Water. For example, you could possibly combine Wind and Water to get Ice element. Or maybe you could be the Leaf's Blade by combining Earth and Fire to get Metal. Or Fire and Lightning to get Plasma. Maybe Water and Lightning and Wind - making you the Storm of the Leaf. Hmmm. Possibilities there.
"You said 'triggering event'?" asked Naruto. "Like what?"
Oh, a lot of bloodline abilities require some kind of trigger to fully tap into, the Sharingan isn't alone in that regard. As to what. Hmmm. This event could do.
"Gomen nasai. Gomen nasai. Gomen nasai," cried little Hinata as the bullies forced her head down.
"Not good enough," sneered the one kid.
"Knock it off," said Naruto, stepping into sight of the three. He got bullied a lot himself and really hated it. Now these guys were picking on some little girl.
"Oh yeah?" said the leader of the three.
"Hey, it's that kid," said the number two kid. "That one that's always getting into trouble."
"Yeah yeah, that kid," said the third. "The one everyone hates."
"That kid," said the leader, openly sneering at this kid. Nobody was going to bother them if they beat the snot out of him.
"The name's Naruto Uzumaki, not 'that kid' - remember it because someday I'm gonna be Hokage."
All three started laughing at the interloper.
"What a load of crap? Hokage?" finally said the leader. "There's no way an idiot like you can be one!"
Naruto went down with a punch to his jaw, but then picked himself right back up.
"Wanna fight?" asked the leader, confident in his backup and superior size and strength to this shrimp.
"Better not regret it, guys," said Naruto, intending to create a bunshin but feeling something else stirring within him. Something that made him say something else. "Wood Release! Wooden Prison!"
The earth erupted as wooden beams sprouted and twisted, forming a dome inside which the three kids had just gone from confident and aggressive to panicked and crying.
"That... that's the Senju clan technique, Mokuton," realized the little girl as she looked up at him.
"It's what?" asked Naruto.
"Senju clan," said the little girl, looking up at him as she got up onto her feet to regard him with an expression he'd never seen on anyone before. "I learned about them when I asked about the Hokage."
Naruto turned on a fierce grin. "So I have a Hokage's technique?"
"Hinata-sama!" said a Hyuga retainer, who came to a stop and stared at the wooden prison.
Naruto took two steps back at the look on the retainer's face. Revulsion and hatred.
"How dare you use the techniques of the Second Hokage and desecrate his memory!" spat the retainer, his cool and calm Hyuga mask overwhelmed at the moment.
Hmmm. That looks like it might be not so good, said the cat as it regarded the way little-Naruto started to run and the clan retainer struck down the little boy.
Though it WAS funny that the three bullies ended up in that wooden cage for several hours until they were finally found.
Naruto glanced around. Maybe he could at least try:
