Mischief Fragment - Replay: Regretful Sword [Episode 237608]

by Kestral

Kakashi Hatake sat down, regarded the boy and then regarded the whitewood sword the boy had.

I'm not going to like this, am I? asked the voice of a little girl.

"I have some answers, do you want to hear them or not?" asked Kakashi.

"Go ahead," said Naruto. "Hinata, this might give you closure."

But-

"If you want to stay with me, you'll have to learn eventually anyway," said Naruto. "Otherwise it'll be a weakness an enemy can exploit."

Oh. All right then. I guess.

Kakashi nodded. "What do you know of the Hyuga clan?"

"I'm guessing they're ninja," said Naruto.

"That was the large compound we passed yesterday," said Kakashi. "Anyway, they have a main house and a branch house."

Hinata made a whimpering noise, causing Naruto to pat the hilt of his bokken in a comforting manner.

Which was odd enough that Kakashi decided he'd boggle at that later, there was already so much with this situation to boggle at that he would save it all up for doing at once.

"Anyway," said Kakashi. "There was a girl of the main house, but she didn't do too well. Apparently she was considered a great failure. At one point she simply gave up, and they used their Juinjutsu - a branding that would put her in the branch house. However, this girl was already fairly old by then. It is normally done when the child is three or four. She didn't survive."

"You think this was Hinata?" asked Naruto.

"How did you get the name 'Hinata' anyway?" asked Kakashi.

I-It felt right, said Hinata's voice.

Kakashi nodded. "Well, yes. That was the name of the girl who died. Hinata Hyuga."

"Thank you," said Naruto, standing up so he could properly bow. The monks were BIG on proper etiquette after all. They drilled that into him often enough.

"So, what are your plans now?" asked Kakashi.

"Since Hinata's still here, she has unfinished business on this world," said Naruto.

I... think I want to stay here, came the ghostly voice.

"That's interesting," said Naruto, noting that there was a faint white shape that had formed in the air.

Kakashi's hand practically flew up to his forehead protector, slipping it up so he could stare with his Sharingan.

She was young, perhaps eight years old, slender and wearing a white yukata. She blinked pale eyes and looked directly into his eye.

Kakashi's hand was shaking a little at first, but he was a jonin and quickly got it into control. Not that he'd faced ghosts before, it was just a bit creepy. Without the Sharingan, the ghost was simply a pale mist that didn't move with the wind.

"I think your spirit just connected more with my sword," said Naruto. "In that case, we'll stick around Konohagakure. Maybe see if there's any jobs a demonhunter can do around here."

"Well, there might be a little problem with that," said Kakashi.
