"Naruto," began Sakura, very hesitant. "If we're going through some kind of test tomorrow..."
"You want to get that Turtwig?" asked Naruto.
Sakura nodded once. She'd prove she was valuable to Sasuke yet! Though if he was dismissive of pokemon, this would actually be a step back, wouldn't it?
"Professor Birch has it," said Naruto cheerfully. "Let's go!"

"So... this is like a summons but anyone can use it?" asked the genin, pointing at the odd animal that had landed on his head and seemed to like that location.
"Yes," said Professor Birch, gesturing at the chart. "These are all the persons who have a pokemon of their own and who the pokemon have chosen to associate with."
"I see," said Rock Lee, reaching up and grabbing the pokemon which had found his head such a convenient perch.
"That's a Taillow," explained the Professor. "Do you want to register him as your pokemon and get a pokeball?"
"I suppose," said Rock Lee, of two minds about this. On the one hand, he wanted to prove he could become a splendid ninja with only taijutsu. On the other hand, it was really not appropriate for a ninja to throw away any advantage he could get - was it?
"Now you'll have to train him up," began Professor Birch.
"Train?" asked Rock.
"Yes, Taillow will evolve to Swellow when sufficiently trained," explained Professor Birch, bringing up a picture on one monitor.
"I see," said Rock, scratching his head. So he had to train hard, but so did his ninja-pet? Well, that was at least one thing about all this that made sense.
