"They didn't get the bells, they didn't cooperate, and one of them was blown up," said Kakashi with a shrug.
"Yes, but Naruto brought him back, sort of," said the Third Hokage with a sigh.
"The bringing back was concerning," admitted Kakashi. "So was the change in Sasuke. That he was taking it so well..."
"Maybe after some training in how to be a proper kunoichi, and experience with the new form, Satsuki Uchiha will settle down some," said the Hokage, a trace of hope in his voice.
"As long as he's, I mean she, has a proper instructor," said Kakashi.
"Hello, I'm Satsuki Uchiha, how do you do?"
"Anko Mitarashi. I'm your instructor in all things feminine for the next week."
Satsuki smiled. "Oh? I must say you look... quite capable in that regard."
"Well, if you can't be their instructor, I'll have to find someone else," mused the Hokage. "I can't send all three back to the Academy."
"Why not?" asked Kakashi. "That IS the Standard Operating Procedure."
"Because Sakura needs some busywork to come to terms with the fact that her interference killed the boy she loved, while Naruto has had to face five asassination attempts from Sasuke fangirls in the past twenty-four hours," said the Hokage drily.
"Well, that's..." said Kakashi thoughtfully.
"One actually managed to scare him," said the Hokage. "He used a spell that encased her in ice. She's currently at the hospital undergoing treatment for frostbite and hypothermia."
"That actually sounds more like a reason to put them into the Academy than to let them loose," suggested Kakashi.
"As a result of that, and that one of Naruto's other attackers was on a genin team and likewise injured, I've had to shuffle a few teams," said the Hokage. "I regret doing so, as the new teams were just beginning to learn to work together. I was able to avoid doing so with some of the older teams at least."
"Shuffle?" asked Kakashi. "That's extreme."
"You didn't read the file on Naruto, did you?" asked the Hokage.
"Oh, that thing?" asked Kakashi, trying to look innocent.
"Naruto's hijutsu specializes in area-effect explosions," said the Hokage. "This is just a temporary measure though, until things settle down a bit."
"Oh?" asked Kakashi, curiosity showing.
"Ah, so you are Tenten's replacement in this cross-training exercise," said Maito Gai, giving the newcomer a thumb's up. "Welcome! We shall first judge your taijutsu skills. Neji?"
"Neji Hyuga," said the long-haired boy as he stepped up and coldly looked over his opponent.
"Choji Akimichi," said the new guy, bowing slightly to his opponent as he settled into place.
Neji began with his usual gambit, belittling his opponent. "Don't think that your fat will save your tenketsu from my gaze."
Choji went from amiable to angry in less than a second. "What did you just say?"
"So you're Hinata, I've heard of you from Kurenai," said Asuma.
"Y-y-yes sir," agreed the girl.
"Shikamaru Nara's over there, and Ino Yamanaka," said Asuma.
"Troublesome," summed up Shikamaru.
"I'm sorry," apologized Hinata.
"Don't mind him. He thinks everything is troublesome," said Ino dismissively.
"During this cross-training exercise," explained Kurenai Yuhi. "Team 8 will be composed of Kiba, Shino, and Sakura Haruno."
"I've been told that I'm a genjutsu type," said Sakura. "I'm looking forward to learning from an expert."
Aoba Yamashiro stared at the boy. "Okay."
"Okay?" asked Naruto.
Aoba shrugged.
"Well, at least it'll be quieter than my team," rationalized Tenten.
"We have Naruto Uzumaki, hijutsu specialist in large explosions," said Aoba finally. "And you, Tenten, who are known for being a weapons specialist with a further specialization in ranged weapons."
"Pretty much sums it up," said Tenten, eyeing the blonde next to her. "Don't we need a third genin?"
"This is just temporary, and Satsuki Uchiha is being given a crash course in remedial studies due to some circumstances that are above my pay grade." Aoba shrugged again.
"Actually," said Naruto. "Since we both specialize in ranged attacks, I came up with a possibility."
