It was over twenty years since the Slayers struck down Darkstar. In that time, their legend had faded. The Inner and Outer worlds had established trade lines. Magic was returning to the outer world, just as the inner world was discovering the 'joys' of gunpowder.
Into the ports of Atlas city another ship from the Outer World arrived. It carried spices, goods, and other merchandise that would be sold for similar products to be taken to the Outer World.
But on this trip... it carried something more.
The Port Master stared in shock as the crew members scrambled to get out of the way of a single figure. Remarkable, as much of the crew was made up of massive lizard like creatures easily twice the size of a man. And the figure was small and slim even by human standards.
"Who's he?" the Port Master asked the captain.
The grizzled old captain swallowed nervously. "Naw... tis a She. She's Bone, the most dangerous mercenary what ever walked the badlands. They say she's the most powerful human in the world, an' I aint gonna argue with them."
Now the Port Master could make out more details. She was small and slim, enough so that he was just going to have to take the captains word that she was a she. She was dressed in black clothes, with a gray shawl over most her face and a large black hat on her head. The presence of a short sword graced each of her hips.
"Come now," he said with a nervous grin, "She can't be that dangerous. What can she do? Cast the Dragon Slave?"
The Captain's steely gaze told the Port Master that this was no joke. "I've seen her in action, I have. She don't cast no magic. She don't need too. She's got enough on her own as is."
"What do you mean?"
"We insisted that she not be armed while on the ship. Thought that would keep us safe, we did. But then we was attacked by pirates, pirates what had a sorcerer with them. Bone... she just picks up a butterknife from the galley. Killed five men with it, including their sorcerer. Then she threw that butterknife at the pirate ship... and it split in two!!"
"The knife?"
"The bloody ship, you idjit! She sank a pirate ship with a butterknife, she did. Aint no way I'm ever sailing her on my ship again..."
The Port Master blanched at the idea. He paled further when he looked back toward Bone... and realized she was headed his way!
In almost no time, she was standing before him. The Port Master felt ridiculous being afraid of someone half his size... but one look at her red eyes convinced him he should be. The bone-white skin and pure white hair didn't help either...
"Excuse me," she said in a soft pleasant voice. And the Port Master, well, the part of him not incoherent with fear at any rate, noted that the voice did indeed suggest Bone was female.
"Um... y-yes? How may I help you?"
"I need to get to a place called Zefielia. How do I get there?"
