That such a statement was mumbled from one of the guards to his next-shift replacement would have been quite unusual anywhere else. That the guard who took that statement merely rolled his eyes (hard to tell at any distance as they were Hyuga) and nodded was an indication of how things had gotten.
Naruto Uzumaki. Civilians hated him for some reason he just didn't understand.
Sasuke grunted to himself and listened to the on-and-off rain patter as the dragon threw a coil of his length up to shield the girl, without waking up.
Sasuke Uchiha shook his head at that. Girls were weird and troublesome, he knew this from the bottom of his heart. Hinata as much as any of them, just a different kind of weird.
Naruto might get cooties or something. It would serve him right. Well, in his dragon-form that might be a little difficult.
Sasuke accepted a blanket from one of the women who came by, mumbled a thank you, and looked out at the night. It should either rain or not rain, none of this off-and-on stuff. Maybe he should go back to the Uchiha compound during one of the off phases?
Yeah, that would probably be best.
Naruto stretched in the morning, sniffing at odd scents in the air.
He was back to being human again, but something felt different. Something he couldn't immediately place.
"You should leave now," said one of the guards.
"I'm surprised you let me sleep this late," noted Naruto.
"Nobody really felt like moving you in dragon form," said the guard. "It would be too much trouble."
"Yeah yeah, don't get yer shorts torqued, oneechan," said Naruto, skipping ahead of the half-hearted swat the guard responded with. He waved over his shoulder as he left, smirking. It was like some sort of game, with the responses pretty much following a pattern.
Whatever was "off" about this morning, that wasn't it. So what was it?
