Mischief Fragment - Replay: Swords and contracts [Episode 240012]

by Kestral

Age Eleven:

Naruto signed the contract, a nervous Hinata looking on from concealment.

"There we go," said the cat in the park, wearing a purple glittery hat as the contract snapped shut. "The contract for the Twelve Swords. You can summon a sword to you, but it will be randomly chosen from the twelve swords - and it is influenced by your emotional state. Remember to practice!"

"But I don't know how to use a sword," said Naruto, realizing this as what he'd just agreed to caught up with him.

"No problem," said the cat, doing a backflip that somehow turned into a midair piroutte and coughing up...

"WHAT?!" squeaked a black-haired white-eyed red-faced girl.

"Eh?" asked Naruto.

"Oh, just did a summon of one of your future friends," said the cat.

"'Future friends'?" asked Naruto.

"F-f-f-friends?" squeaked Hinata.

"Oh yeah, I took a peek into the future and saw you two have an 85% chance of becoming close friends in the future," said the cat, reaching into a pocket (or a section of fur corresponding to one) and pulling out a girl at least eight times his mass.

"What?! Who?! Where?!" asked the girl, having experienced a set of sensations that she'd NOT been prepared for that had involved tasting the sky and glimpsing the color of sweet.

"Ahem," said the cat, handing out business cards to the two sprawled out girls. "My card."

[Just a passing deity of mischief] read Hinata.

[Cosmic Jester Industries, time travel, wishcraft, massive incidental destruction.] read Tenten.

"Now, I've seen in the future where you two become really good friends of Naruto here," said the cat.

"Really?!" asked Naruto hopefully, looking from the cat to the two girls.

"Mfff," was the noise Hinata made as she tried to hide inside her coat.

"Uhm, okay," said Tenten, very uncertainly about this but not really seeing anything WRONG with being friends with some kid even if he WAS a whole year younger than she was.

"Right!" said the cat, taking off his hat and rummaging around in it. "So I figured since he just signed the Twelve Swords summoning contract, you two could help him learn how to use a sword."

"eep," said Hinata, her eyes glazing over (not that anyone watching could tell) as she considered spending lots of time training with Naruto-kun. Unfortunately there was one little problem. "B-b-but I don't know how to use a sword."

"What kind of sword?" asked Tenten.

"They're similar to European longswords, or hand-and-a-half swords," said the cat, conjuring up an image of one.

"Hmmm," pondered Tenten. "I'm not a full Master but I know the basics."

"Excellent," said Toltiir. "Then there are experts like Yugao and Hayate who can do the more advanced training."

"What do I get out of it?" asked Tenten. "That's a lot of hours training him up."

"How about a Summons Contract of your own? Not for the swords though," asked Toltiir.

"Let's negotiate," said Tenten, a certain gleam in her eye.

There was a short, fierce, haggling session that developed. Afterwards Hinata could not swear one way or the other how SHE had ended up with a Summons Contract. Tenten was fairly pleased with her own contract though, and with the addition of a drow handcrossbow that came with a small pot of sleeping poison and twenty bolts sized to fit the device. She had just KNOWN that all those times haggling in the markets of the Leaf Village would come in handy some day.

Poof! went the cat and the scroll, both seeming to roll up into neat cylinders that then vanished in a puff of chakra smoke.

Hinata looked at her own Summons, as the Contract Carrier rolled up her contract and put it away before vanishing. She was now the Contractor for:
