Mischief Fragment - White: A little mixup [Episode 240031]

by Kestral

Toltiir was trying to color inside the lines. Mostly.

Having backtracked things, it was now "original recipe" up until Naruto's eleventh year at which point everything rapidly diverged.

Well mostly. What had surprised him was that with the extra characters thrown in, as well as Naruto's new competence in various skills, so little divergence HAD occurred. Well, until sorting day.

Iruka's eyes went over the class as he started going over the team assignments.

Naruto had been showing off his skill in cooking and herbcraft and would make an excellent medic-nin if he ever overcame his chakra control problems.

His skills in what he termed Alchemy were a little less certain but just the Minor Healing Potion he was able to brew was enough to get him lab space and some spreading respect at this point. If only he didn't periodically botch something up and end up with frequent messes.

Naruto's experiments over the past year had added the recipes for Minor Chakra Potion, Minor Regeneration Potion, and an upgrade to the Minor Healing Potion - Lesser Healing Potion.

A major benefit to Naruto's life since he'd begun working on these skills was that a number of people saw him less as the 'fox brat' and more as the 'alchemist who occasionally blew up the building he was in' and less a prankster than someone with rare and useful skills.

His grades had improved as well, possibly helped along by his studies with Hinata Hyuga. Whose own family had become less hostile towards Naruto with the gift of several of those Minor Chakra Potions. The Hyuga family's head had immediately seen how useful such things could be.

"Team five," said Iruka, reading from the scroll. "Your jonin will be Yukari Tanizaki... oh you poor poor children."

"Eh?!" asked most of the class, hoping they wouldn't be named as soon as the teacher's name registered.

"How did she make jonin?" asked a student.

"She was enough of a problem as a chunin instructor," noted another student.

Trying to keep the pity from his voice, Iruka continued. "Team five is composed of Tobio, Koyomi Mizuhara-"

Koyomi started praying.

"-and Tomo Takino," finished Iruka.

"Nooooooooooooooooo," protested Koyomi. "Why? What blotch on my karma have I done?"

"Team six," said Iruka. "Jonin is Minamo Kurosawa. Kagura, Sakaki, and Kiba Inuzuka."

Kagura glanced at Kiba and blushed for no immediately apparent reason.

"Team seven under jonin Kakashi Hatake," continued Iruka. "Sasuke Uchiha, Chiyo Mihama, and Ayumu Kasuga."

"Oh? Sasuke-kun?" asked Ayumu 'Osaka' Kasuga. "This is fate!"

"Ugh," said Sasuke, looking as if he was going to have a migraine."

Chiyo sighed and patted her dog partner on the head, just knowing this was going to be trouble.

"Team Eight," continued Iruka. "Hinata Hyuga, Shino Aburame, and Ino Yamanaka. Jonin Kurenai Yuhi."

Shino looked like he wanted to say this was troublesome, but he merely adjusted his sunglasses. Hinata, on the other hand, looked severely disappointed.

"Poor Sasuke," complained Ino. "I'm sure he'd rather be on a team with me than with the dead-last."

"I think he'd rather be on an all-guy or at least no-fangirl team," mumbled Shikamaru.

"Team Ten. Asuma Sarutobi is your jonin. Shikamaru Nara, Choji Akimichi, and Sakura Haruno."

"Why couldn't I be on Sasuke's team?" complained Sakura.

"Because it's a tradition to pair the high scorer, the highest ranked kunoichi, and the worst scorer together in a team," said Iruka. "Ahem. Team Eleven. Naruto Uzumaki,
