"Eh? 'Spose. Okay, FAIL." Yukari stepped back, ready to go to the next jonin-sensei.
"A little more detail?" not-suggested the Hokage.
Yukari rolled her eyes. "Okay. I used the 'Make Genin permit' test. Two permits, hidden in a backpack, set not too far from the clock."
"Kind of obvious, wasn't it?" asked Asuma.
"You'd think," grumped Yukari. "They were in with the lunches."
"What happened?" asked the Hokage.
"Tomo Takino," said Yukari. "Whoever taught her how to make explosive tags should be publicly whipped."
"Uhm, that would be you, actually," put in Nyamo.
"'Love letter'," threatened Yukari.
"Ack," said Nyamo.
"She blew up the permits?" asked the Hokage.
"The permits, the backpack, the lunch, the clock, the other members of her team, several trees and a family of squirrels," said Yukari.
"Are the other genin seriously injured?" asked the Hokage.
"Tobio's hair will regrow, and the doctors say his hearing will return in a few weeks," said Yukari. "Koyomi is apparently going to drop from the ninja program and is planning on joining a civilian work program in the capital. After the bandages and cast comes off."
"I see," said the Hokage. His eyes flicked to the next in line. "Minamo?"
"Pass," said Minamo (Nyamo) Kurosawa. "I used the message interception method with point scoring system. Despite the competition between Sakaki and Kagura, and despite Kagura apparently having a crush on Kiba and Sakaki having a fascination with Akamaru - they were able to pull off a successful mission with Kagura coming in last place. Kiba's viewing of his team as a pack was evident from the start and he managed to get them to pull together as a team."
"Promising," said the Hokage. "Team Seven?"
"Maa," said Kakashi Hatake. "Where to begin? I used the bell test."
"Pass or fail?" asked the Hokage.
"I'm not sure Osaka even realized she was in a test," said Kakashi. "I'm still deciding on aspects of this. Chiyo attempted to get the two to work with her, and she shows considerable skill with genjutsu. She managed to throw off the Hell Viewing Technique with little effort. Her ninjutsu, specializing in using clone techniques alongside her dog companion, is pretty good for someone her age and with her chakra levels. Eventually though she DID run out of chakra. Her stamina and taijutsu are about what you'd expect from a child like that. Sasuke has good taijutsu, pulled out a few fire-based jutsu, but insisted on doing everything himself until just at the end. He cooperated with Chiyo at that point. The problem was Osaka."
"How well did she do?" asked the Hokage.
"She took a nap and slept through the test," said Kakashi.
"So 'fail'?" asked the Hokage.
"No, Chiyo explained the test - having figured out the hidden meaning apparently on her own. Sasuke and Chiyo worked together, and if they'd been able to find Osaka and wake her up - they would have worked together," said Kakashi. "I haven't been able to determine if Osaka is actually brain-damaged and should be precluded from being a ninja or not. Once she was tied to the post, the other two DID manage to show signs of teamwork with her."
"Team Eight?" asked the Hokage.
"Pass," said Kurenai Yuhi. "The test was the Messenger Stop with interference. I was able to get Anko Mitarashi to assist as the interference. She summoned a number of snakes to use. The team rallied after some initial conflicts. Hinata and Shino went for distraction roles while Ino possessed one of the snakes to infiltrate the ranks."
"Team Ten?" asked the Hokage.
"Sakura's pretty hopeless," admitted Asuma. "Choji and Shikamaru work well together. Though Shikamaru seemed to want to go back to the Academy, Sakura served to prod him into the test. I thought she was supposed to be a genjutsu specialist in the making, and you certainly couldn't see any of that in her performance. They managed to pass though, even if Sakura's role was mainly in kicking Shikamaru into participating."
"Team Eleven?" asked the Hokage.
"I used the traditional Bell Test," said Setsuna Meiou. "Minako Aino used bunshin, Naruto Uzumaki used kage bunshin, Makoto Kino utilized her Lightning element jutsu. The overall performance was pathetic at first, none of the three knowing enough about the others to mesh. They did get better and showed signs of becoming a cohesive group by the end."
"Very well," said the Hokage. "Those who passed, start your genin on D-Ranks tomorrow. Yukari - I've got a B-Rank for you tomorrow morning, try not to be TOO hung over."
