It was also known that they were older than they looked. Each was older than the Third Hokage but were teenage girls despite that.
It was also very well known that putting the two of them together was a BAD thing. The two would start off trying to tolerate each other's presence, but it would devolve into a fight within minutes and the two were as destructive as Anko Mitarashi could be at her worst drunk.
So when the two showed up, with a few bandages and bruises and contusions, and faced each other - people scurried off to find other business.
"Stop getting in my way," said Pirotess.
"I won't let you corrupt him," said Deedlit.
"You've seen how the village treats him," said Pirotess. "Such behavior is worthy of his rage and their own destruction."
"That isn't Naruto's way, and is one of the good things about him," responded Deedlit. "This isn't helping. We're just rehashing the same arguments."
Pirotess frowned but nodded once, not liking even being on this much agreement with the high elf. "We're on the same team with him, and it has to be a team of three genin. Why don't you switch with someone else? Maybe Team Gai?"
"Why don't YOU switch with someone else?" countered Deedlit. "It might take a little work, but maybe you could get on Sasuke's team."
The two elves glared at each other, then launched towards each other - their dislike evident.
"STOP IT!" said Naruto, jumping down between the two.
SMACK! CRUNCH!
"Naruto?!" said Deedlit, removing her fist from his cheek.
"Naruto?" asked Pirotess, removing her own fist from his other cheek.
"Owie," said Naruto, the twelve year old just knowing this was not going well.
"Look what you have done," said Pirotess and Deedlit to each other.
"I really wish you two would stop that," said Naruto, working his jaw back and forth as he paused. "We gotta get along on this team."
"You want us to get along?" asked Deedlit. "That's entirely too much, Naruto-kun."
"Oh?" asked Pirotess, one elegant eyebrow arching. "Sexy jutsu isn't the only thing grown up about you, eh - Naruto-sama? You want to see me dominate this high elf?"
"That's NOT what he meant!" insisted Deedlit. "Besides, I'd win."
"You wish, flower-sniffer," said Pirotess. "I'd have you bound and lying at Naruto's feet if he wanted that. You'd make an interesting footstool."
"You're the one wearing a leather collar with a D-Ring," pointed out Deedlit.
"I can get one your size, no problem," said Pirotess.
"Uhm," said Naruto, thinking this was an improvement as they weren't talking about killing each other at the moment but he wasn't sure that this was going any better. "You two gotta get along better!"
"Impossible," said Pirotess.
"Naruto-kun, you have no idea what you're asking of me," complained Deedlit.
"I mean it," said Naruto. "Ever since that attempt at a summoning contract that I made, you two have been at each throats. That has to stop. You're both genin of the Leaf now! We're on a team!"
Glancing down at the short human between them, Pirotess frowned for a moment then let out an exasperated noise.
"I'll... try, Naruto-kun," said Deedlit.
"For your sake, I'll do my best to tolerate her," said Pirotess, eyeing the high elf. Though maybe she'd just go ahead and get that collar.
Naruto smiled and grabbed one hand of each of the two elves. "Now we got to celebrate. Ichiraku's here we come."
"No," said the two elves, who then frowned at each other for having cooperated like this.
"I know how much you like Ichiraku ramen, Naruto-kun," tried Deedlit. "And certainly Teuchi and Ayame are nice folks."
"If you ever wise up and start destroying the fools who have hurt you, those two should be spared," admitted Pirotess largely under her breath.
"But you need better nutrition at this stage in your life," said Deedlit. "How about a nice salad?"
"Something with more meat," suggested Pirotess.
"Korean Barbeque?" compromised Deedlit.
Pirotess prepared to argue, glanced down at Naruto, then closed her mouth and nodded once.
Naruto let out a breath and began taking his two team members along. It was a start at least.
