"Politics are so troublesome," agreed Michiru.
Setsuna Meiou sat back and watched the crowds while her two friends, chunin like herself, did what they did. Which was mainly scarfing dango and throwing the sticks into a tree while griping about the latest missions.
In the case of Anko Mitarashi, the mission had involved sneaking into the camp of some bandits that had been flitting back and forth across the border with Iwa. It also featured blood, random stabbings, poisonous snakes, and a few explosions.
In the case of Kurenai Yuhi, it involved sneaking into a village in Wave and getting some information and then getting out again without anyone knowing about it.
Her own most recent mission, at least according to the memories she had, had involved running some documents to the capitals of Fire and Wind. It had also, apparently, involved a nutcase who called himself the Riddling Nin - who had been committing crimes in both of those capitals. A number of people just called him The Riddler. Goofball. Insane. Fond of using fuuinjutsu. Also had some water jutsu talents.
Her mission had also involved a monster made of (apparently) spaghetti. With meatballs. And, if the scent was any indication, a marinara sauce that included red wine as an ingredient.
Setsuna's finely honed instincts detected the influence of a certain elder god of mischief.
"So," said Anko after a few drinks and a lot of dango, "your bloodline show you something lately?"
"Yes," said Setsuna, sipping delicately at her tea. "I've Seen a few things."
Kurenai flashed a bit of interest in her own way before masking it.
Setsuna paused. Her bloodline ability, again according to official records, was the uncontrolled ability to get images of the future. Or at least a possible future. In combat, it was similar to the Sharingan's ability to read the opponent's moves a second before the attack would hit. In everyday life, it was getting brief flashes of What Could Be.
"I Saw Kurenai in front of the Hokage's desk," said Setsuna.
"Happens on a daily basis just taking on the missions and reporting back," commented Anko, smirking before shooting back her saucer of sake.
"Accepting a jonin instructor assignment for a genin team," finished Setsuna.
SNORT! GAK! HACK!
Setsuna wore her own smirk as some of Anko's sake ended up sprayed out her nose.
"Kindly don't be facing in my direction if you ever do that again," said Kurenai, wiping substances she didn't want to identify off her face.
"Kurenai will make jonin? Shepherding a bunch of kids?" asked Anko, thinking about it as she wiped her own face with the back of her hand. "Oddly enough, I can see it."
"Oh?" asked Setsuna.
"She's a lot better with kids than I am," admitted Anko.
Both Setsuna and Kurenai shuddered at the thought of Anko being jonin-sensei to a genin team.
"Did you See who?" said Kurenai, thinking that would give her a timeframe.
"Only one I know for certain is that little Hyuga girl," said Setsuna with a little shrug. "The future is always in motion and the team sorting usually involves grades and evaluatations - so I suspect that it is mostly in flux still."
"So who do I get?" asked Anko.
"I haven't Seen any indication of your future," admitted Setsuna.
Anko snorted, then looked thoughtful, then began to look worried. "Uhm. Nothing?"
"No, not a thing," admitted Setsuna.
"Oh," said Anko quietly.
"It's not like she can control that talent," said Kurenai, not at all worried about the lack of visions. After all, Setsuna didn't see the fates of everyone she met.
"I s'pose," said Anko, knocking back another saucer of sake.
