"So... I thought everything was dead," said Ranma, making a gesture at the few restored buildings surrounded by ruins.
"No, there are many forms of life which can survive for extended periods or wouldn't even notice an asteroid impact unless it literally split the planet in two," said Sailor Mercury. "The simpler the life-form, the more likely it is to be able to survive such a thing."
"Oh," said Ranma.
"Bacteria, viruses, mold, worms and other life forms at the bottom of the ocean," listed off Sailor Mercury. She was used to explaining things to Usagi - so this was fairly familiar. "Also crocodiles, sharks, some deep dwelling fish, rats, and so on."
"Gotcha," said Ranma.
"I'll monitor now," said Sailor Mercury. "Now, if you would, try turning the city around us into forest."
"Huh? Why?" asked Ranma.
"Because right now, forested areas would provide a place for wildlife," said Sailor Mercury. "Grass too. If I'm right, you can summon things from outside our universe only under specific circumstances. You cannot actually create something from nothing in this universe, but you can pretty much transform one thing into another thing."
After watching his helper turn her attention back to her computer, Ranma lifted his hand high and focussed the Great Will on the task.
Buildings tore themselves apart, shredding into smaller and smaller pieces, which shifted into glowing motes of green which then began coming together.
The grass was first, a thick carpet of green that consumed the streets and began spreading out to the horizon. Then the trees started shooting up, looking as if a time-lapse film had been made Trees went from shoots just breaking the grass, then became saplings, which eventually became centuries-old growth trees bigger around than Ami was tall.
"Stabilize the root system," instructed Mercury. "Have them go deeper to reach the water."
Ranma concentrated, focussing.
"Soil analysis," said Mercury. "Add more nitrogen to the soil. Disperse it. Disperse it through the entire area. Good."
"He's cute," said Minako Aino, surprising absolutely no one.
"Very good martial artist," added Makoto. "I can tell."
"He's got a nice tush."
Everyone stopped, slowly turned, and stared at Ami.
"What? You'd prefer I say something about 'gluteus maximus'?" asked Ami. "I just spent five hours with him rebuilding the dead area around this section of city into something that can support life."
"Why did that prankster god send us here?" asked Michiru.
Ami sighed. "Because he IS a trickster god. A dead world has no amusement value."
"Oh," said most of the assembled Senshi and other girls.
"So, there's all of us and ONE guy," said one of the non-Senshi present.
"God of mischief, remember?" tiredly said Ami as she flopped back against the floor. "Though I'm sure that some of the more bizarre things summoned were entirely Ranma's own doing."
"Haruka-poppa is still trying to get the Gundam started," noted Hotaru.
"Cookies?" asked Deedlit, bringing in a plate of said snacks.
"Not to mention cookie-making elves," said Makoto drily.
"I think that was a bit of both of them," said Ami. "So we've got a world of ninja, samurai, powerful martial artists, bizarre creatures..."
"Hey!" protested a unicorn-centaur.
"...no offense," said Ami, lifting her head up enough to look at the girl with the horn and four hooves.
"Why monster girls?" asked Minako.
"I think Ranma was aiming for sparring partners but he isn't actually able to affect things outside this universe without someone from outside this universe providing a little nudge," said Ami.
"Sparring partners?" asked a dragon.
"Well, some of the monsters aren't particularly 'monster girls' but don't act particularly monster-OUS," amended Ami with a nod towards some gorilla who was reading a book on existential philosophy.
"So what now?" asked Minako.
