Temple Days: Motivations and the hero-ing schtick [Episode 24207]

by Kestral

What's a quest without a villain?

Of course, in some worlds like RIFTS Earth, the forces of good were so overwhelmed and outgunned that any resistance they might offer was laughable.

On Toril, known to some as the Forgotten Realms, things were slightly more balanced. There were the forces of good, the forces of evil, the forces seeking some sort of balance, and for every mad god (ex: Cyric) trying to put forth an agenda of destruction and evil, there was a counterforce (ex: the Harpers).

On or in Toril there were vast numbers of evil drow. A vicious matriarchal society where hate was a virtue, backstabbing double points, and loyalty to anything other than their patron goddess Lolth was mainly discounted. There was a small number of good drow, mainly where Ranma was currently located, but mainly the evil drow of the Underdark were opposed by other evil races and darn near every surface race that found the drow self assured superiority to be grating.

This generally meant that if one were a hero, one could expect certain things to develop.

The Companye Of The Silver Rose came from Silverymoon, a city on Toril which had a number of races and one of the Seven Sisters ruling over it. The term Silver was derived from their home city, while the Rose part had been fiercely contested by each of the adventurers as they'd tried to come up with a name to register themselves as.

Rii had wanted it to be The Silver Arrows. Not only would this intimidate lycanthropes, but as she was an archer she would enjoy star status.

Mercuria had wanted it to be The Companye Of The Silver Dragon. Mainly because she liked silver dragons and if it sounded like they had a dragon as an ally - it would tend to give them an air of class and mystery.

Their paladin had wanted it to be the Silver Crescent. For one thing she could paint a silver crescent on her shield a lot easier than she could paint a silver dragon.

Myna had wanted it to be the Pewter Prowlers - something that everyone else could agree was not worthy of consideration.

Lyta had come up with the Silver Rose.

The decision had been made with a game of "rock-paper-scissors" unfortunately starting a tradition within the group as far as settling decisions.

The first thing the group had decided on was to go out and seek adventure. They'd all heard for years about various adventuring groups going out and striking it rich.

Ranma quickly determined that that wasn't all there was to it. None of them, well - maybe Myna, were doing this out of some idea that adventures were fun.

Myna thought that adventures were easier than holding down a regular job.

Mercuria wanted to learn enough that she could eventually have her own tower of sorcery.

Their paladin had wanted to adventure because there were wrongs to be righted.

Rii was out to prove herself.

Lyta wanted to see the world. She also wanted to get married and open a bakery. Or a flowershop. Or become a weaponsmith. Or something.

They found adventure. Unfortunately they'd also found themselves over their collective heads in short order. As Mercuria pointed out, they were at least all alive. Most of their gear had been surrendered after the paladin had been captured, apparently they'd all claimed to have a boyfriend waiting for them and the guy had lost interest and so just demanded most of their equipment. As this was their first adventure - they didn't have a lot of loot.

Now they had to deal with some kind of perverted teenage mage.
