Mischief Fragment: Eyes: Darkness Falls [Episode 243025]

by Kestral

Naruto had something sealed within him but that thing wasn't uncontrolled rage.

As a result of his studies and assisting his houseguest over the five years since she'd been blinded, he had learned chakra control, self control, and mouth control. He had gotten sympathy from people who normally would not have sympathized with him, and people who would have seen him only as the Fox had that vision tempered by someone who was doing his best for his only friend and someone who'd gotten a really bad deal.

Over those five years, often sitting in Iruka Umino's class, she had gotten some who approached her with the goal of friendship and assistance. Some of whom disparaged Naruto's care of her and went on to give instructions on the proper way of doing so.

So when Naruto put together the fuuinjutsu and activated it, he was not alone in the room.

Hinata saw the classroom flicker and then appear around her, all in shades of gray but in high definition. Eyelids flicked over the glass replacement eyes that had been given her two years previously. It was not the Byakugan, but she had a 180 degree field of vision now and she could see all the objects in the room clearly.

She could also see the people. They were glowing.

"It's odd," said Hinata, craning her head around. "I can see everything but everyone has a glow around them."

"A 'glow'?" asked Naruto.

"You're the brightest," said Hinata. She pointed. "That man is the second brightest. You're yellow with a red point at the hara. He's all diffuse blue."

The various people all looked at each other, clearly not sure what she was talking about.

The man had been sitting on the edge of the desk at the front of the room. He straightened, and when he spoke Hinata realized that this must be Iruka-sensei. "What do you see when I do this?"

Hinata answered honestly. "Your left hand is glowing brighter. Now your right hand."

"Ah," said Iruka. "You are seeing chakra. I just channelled chakra to one hand and then the other without using them for techniques. What about when I do this?"

"Ah!" said Hinata. "It's beautiful. You just sent a pulse of chakra all around you and it came back to you."

"Clan technique, sensor ability," said Iruka. "Well, that's interesting. Probably you see it as blue because I have a strong affinity for Water Release."

"There's other colors around the edge," said Hinata, looking around. "Everyone has different colors there though."

"Might be a useful fuuinjutsu then," said Iruka thoughtfully. "Naruto, make sure you detail all the notes on this - I'll need to turn this over to the Hokage."

"What keeps anyone from stealing the headband and using it themselves?" asked Danzo as he looked over his copy of the notes.

Homura paused before answering. "Glass eyes. She has a fuuinjutsu enscribed on them as well that links to the bandana. She preferred to cover them anyway."

"So even if an enemy stole the headband, they wouldn't have the full process needed to reconstruct the trick," said Danzo, a faint smile tugged at one corner of his mouth.

"Yes, the boy HAS learned to be sneaky somewhat," agreed Homura. Straightforward was for samurai after all. "So she can see chakra as 'auras' surrounding people, even if they're hiding behind objects as long as they're within ten meters by their glow. She can read and find her way around. They're considering just letting her go ahead and take the genin test in a few more months."

Danzo considered and nodded. His main concern was that the village became stronger. This girl had the potential to bring new abilities to the field, and her being a ninja meant that the boy would continue to try and improve upon what he'd wrought. Having an Uzumaki rise to the proficiency of seal-master would strengthen the village. "Good."

Five years. Five years of unending darkness. Five years of darkness now dispelled.

She was sure to stumble a few times to draw Naruto out. She could sense his worry that now that she no longer needed him as much, his best friend would leave him.

Boys could be silly like that sometimes, both Ino and Sakura had brought that detail up once or twice over the years.
