Naruto Uzumaki had studied, having a clearcut goal before him. He'd learned early on that the thing he needed most, and that he lacked the most, was control.
He'd studied fuuinjutsu and medical ninjutsu. He'd attacked the lessons that Iruka-sensei had given him, and explained it all to his friend. Reading to her, and having to explain things, he came to understand things better himself.
"Okay, here we go. Let's try this."
Hinata held herself completely still as she felt her old blindfold taken off, and her new one being tied into place.
She focussed.
Naruto held his breath as Hinata took a deep breath.
The blindfold had a metal rectangle in the center, which was a forehead protector patch that he'd been able to get without the identifying symbol of a village. On it was a central eye flanked by six squiggles, three on each side. Those "squiggles" were actually what remained of an elaborate fuuinjutsu set of seals that had taken up considerably more room before activation.
One linked blindfold to the wearer. Each of the other squiggles did something else, adding onto the effects from the others.
A brief golden glow flitted over the first squiggle. Then the second. Then each of the others, one after another, adding their foxfire luminescence to the set. Finally the central eye flickered, and then all the glows abruptly vanished.
Naruto remembered to breathe. "Well?"
Hinata cocked her head, but it was the trembling smile appearing on her face that caused Naruto to sag in relief.
"It's... odd," said Hinata, craning her head around. "I see..."
