Perhaps it would be best to back up a bit. The water of life has the power to, temporarily, surpress any injury thanks to the spores of the moss that grows on the Orochi's nose. The spores, contained within, have the ability, in their native environment, to grow into the moss itself, a potent healing herb. Ranma, with his Xenomorph DNA, already had an accelerated healing factor, one which recognised the Moss as something that would be... beneficial to have available, to say the least. As such, his body adapted to allow a few of the spores to take root.
Still, this normally wouldn't do much under normal circumstances other than allowing Ranma to heal at an even greater pace, but Ranma's Xenomorph DNA was spliced into him after birth, in a procedure that the magic of the Moss considered to be an injury. As such, it 'healed' him, removing almost all of the alien genes.
Of course, the Xenomorph DNA had actually replaced portions of his human genes, and the removal caused something that the Moss recognised as an even worse injury, and thus as something to be healed as well. Unfortunately, his human DNA wasn't available anymore, being replaced in the aforementioned procedure, so the Moss used the one thing it could: the Xenomorph DNA that it had just removed. However, the entire procedure allowed Ranma's human traits to take greater dominance, and Ranma awoke one day to find...
