Rally winced. This wasn’t going to be pleasant...
May Hopkins strolled into the office, her cheerful grin fading to wide-eyed amazement. “Whoa... are you two planning a party or something?” She pouted. “And didn’t invite me?”
Nabiki’s eyes narrowed. “We don’t ‘party’ anymore, little girl.”
“Enough,” Rally hissed, sensing the argument coming. “Everyone, this is May Hopkins, my partner. May... this is my family.”
May blinked, confused. “Your... family? But I thought -”
“Mr. V was my adopted father,” Rally interrupted. “I was given up for adoption before I was born to avoid the fate they ended up with. Eventually, the bastards got my younger sister, Ranma... but she was able to kill her mistress. After that, Mom adopted the girls still left there, got some of the bad tattoos removed, and came here.”
May blinked. “Um... Rally?”
“Yes?”
May looked the girls over one-by-one. “I don’t know about this...”
Rally stood up, and waked toward her. “May... I know exactly what we’re facing. The tracer tattoos are gone, as are any geas tattoos; the only ones left are those absolutely necessary for their survival. The only way anyone is going to find out about them is if someone spots their tattoos... or if someone lets it slip.” She bore her eyes into May’s. “Do you understand?”
May nodded slowly. “Perfectly.” She turned back to the others. “Are they going to help in...”
“They haven’t decided yet,” Nodoka said, her hand resting on Akane’s shoulder. “They’ve seen more than enough violence in their lives; any more should be their choice.”
“Oh,” May replied, slightly disappointed. “So what are you up to?”
Becky turned away from her computer. “Looking for a place for them to live.” She smiled. “I think I have one... but we’ll need to look it over to be sure. A nice place not too far from Chicago proper, large enough to house the entire family comfortably - and with enough trees to make sure nobody could casually spy on them.” She flashed a smile. “Sound good?”
