Mischief Fragment - Slayers: Bigger On The Inside [Episode 244352]

"Doctor, excuse me for mentioning this, but this does not look at all like the Greater Glasgow Area Homemade Chips Festival."

"Well, that's a little problematic," said the fellow in professorial attire. "Do you recall that little 'bump' in the TARDIS?"

"Was that the 'little bump' where I went flying across the room when the wall abruptly became the floor?"

"Ahhhh, yes," admitted the Doctor. "That would be the one."

"Yes, funny thing but I DID manage to notice that. Right up until I was knocked out. Just a reminder that I could still use a bit of aspirin."

"Ah, right," said the Doctor. "Well, that was our course being sharply bent at a right angle."

"A right angle to what?"

"Well," said the Doctor, trying to find terms to use that his current associate could understand. "Kind of at a right angle to everything else."

"Even itself?" asked the skeptical associate.

"Especially itself," said the Doctor with a nod of the head. "This is a parallel dimension. In fact, it isn't even in the same mainline as we were. This doesn't happen very often you know, so I thought I ought to go out and take a looksee."

"I don't know," said Amy Pond. "It seems you rarely end up exactly when and where you intend. It's like your TARDIS has a mind of its own."

"Well, actually, it does," hedged the Doctor. "A bit. Though this is a bit outside the normal range. The only way this could happen is at the behest of an outside entity. And at least a Class III."

"Whatever that enigmatic term might mean," said Amy, finding a bench to watch her associate as he wandered about the square.

Squeak

"What was that?" asked the Doctor.

"Oh, just the TARDIS door moving in the wind," said Amy after checking.

"Oh, I should close it up," said the Doctor, realizing it was still open. "Last time I didn't close it in time I ended up taking this barbarian girl on as an associate. Or when... hmmm. That's actually happened a few times."

"So what do we do here? I mean there's just that creepy statue there."

"Trying to figure out why we ended up here," said the Doctor. "If something brought us here, we leave and we might end up right back. Statue?"

Amy helpfully pointed to the four hundred foot tall moss-covered ancient statue.

"Ugly thing isn't it? With that horn on its head, is it some kind of fertility symbol?" asked the Doctor now that his attention had been directed to it.

"Looks rather creepy to me," said Amy with a shrug. "Why don't we try to leave. Maybe that'll get your 'Type III' to show up?"

"That's 'Class III' entity, and..." The Doctor paused, thought about it, then shrugged. "Why not? Might work better than just going around, sticking my finger into strange places and waiting for something to jump out and eat my face."

"You know, if that didn't describe half of the adventures I've seen..." Amy let that sentence trail off as she went into the blue box.

The Doctor considered that for a few minutes, then followed with another shrug. It didn't get boring. You could say that for it at least.

Shortly thereafter there was a rhythmic grinding thump noise and the blue box vanished.
