"Yeah, tricky to invent those," said Naruto as he watched Hinata clutch the scroll to her chest and wave as she left. He waved back, a little confused by her reaction. "Wasn't at all what I expected."
"Life seldom gives you what you expect," admitted Kakashi.
"Target sighted. Distance, thirty meters."
"Target in sight. Dragonfly in position."
"Target is sniffing the air and is on guard."
"He's bolting!"
"VAN RAIL!"
"NARUTO! You encased the Daimyo's mistress' cat in ice!"
"You mean I stopped him cold?"
"As long as they don't freeze our pay for this."
"Chill, at least I didn't freeze the kitty's head."
Kakashi sighed. "Let's turn him in before he gets hypothermia or something."
Kakashi trudged back with the cat (still frozen from the neck down) being carried by Sakura. He just hoped this wasn't how missions were all going to end up.
Next day:
Sasuke scowled as he used ropes to climb up where he could wash the windows. Whereas Naruto used some flight jutsu and Sakura was just hovering in midair.
He would have to be especially spectacular or he'd lose to these two, and THAT was unacceptable.
"Aqua Create!"
Sasuke frowned as Naruto used a stream of water from his hands to hose off the outside of the building. He REALLY needed to get his Sharingan working.
Next day:
"So... we have to clear this field?" asked Naruto.
"Yes," said Kakashi.
"Sasuke," said Naruto.
"Hn?" asked Sasuke.
"Points for most spectacular," said Naruto, taking a stance.
"Hn!" agreed Sasuke.
"Uhm," said Sakura, wondering what she should do.
Sasuke turned towards the right half of the field, his hands flashing through the signs. "Fire Style: Grand Fireball!"
Naruto made mystical signs of his own.
"Source of all power,
Crimson fire burning bright,
Gather in my hand and become an inferno.
BURST FLARE!"
Sasuke twitched at the sudden feeling of heat and the way the wind blew. He half-turned to Naruto.
Naruto was in a similar pose, and SMIRKING.
Of course, this couldn't be allowed to stand as it was.
"Oh heck," said Sakura as the two started honestly competing. She started forward only to have a hand land on her shoulder.
Kakashi looked down at her. "Best to let them get it out of their system really."
