"I'm a sword?!" asked Hinata, twitching.
"Yes, you're dead and bound to a sword," said Jiraiya.
"The characters are the same, but different," said the Flash, shrugging. "Not too unexpected. You still have a demon fox sealed inside you?"
"Wha?" asked Hinata.
"Uhm," said Naruto nervously.
"Don't worry about it," said Flash. "This is the Justice League. We've got an Angel Of Vengeance, a repentant Demon, and... whatever the Phantom Stranger is. Oh, and Blue Devil. He's kinda like you. Sort of."
"Oh?" asked Naruto as Jiraiya relaxed ever so slightly.
"This is the Justice League," repeated Flash. "Weird happens."
"This is SO cool!" said the otaku girl of Flash's acquaintance.
"Uhm," said Wonder Woman.
"Karen Park," said the otaku. "Flash knows me. I'm not going the hero route, not going the villain route. I like my off-time thank you very much. Besides, it's not like MY skills are going to be of use to you guys."
"What powers do you have?" asked Wonder Woman, curious.
"Instant translation field," said the Flash. "Any language spoken by anyone in the group, everyone in that group can understand as long as she's present."
"We have devices for that," said the Martian Manhunter.
"Yeah, but not everyone has access to alien high-tech," pointed out the Flash. "So I figured she could work with a first response unit or something. Provisional league membership and so on."
"I didn't expect Shinji to be so wimpy in real life," confessed Karen.
"Hey!" protested Shinji.
"He's not a wimp in the series?" asked Asuka, eyeing the stack of DVDs the girl was carrying.
"Well, sort of," hedged Karen. "Apparently he attracts monsters, which usually gives Asuka or Rei the chance to whomp monster butt."
Asuka plucked one of the DVDs before it could fall from Karen's hands. "You know, the more I hear about this series - the more I'm liking it."
"Is that pikachu wearing a little Batman outfit?" asked Karen, momentarily distracted.
"Yeah. Batman still ignoring it?" asked a distracted Asuka, wondering if she should get an outfit like the one on the back of this one. Not to mention the big rune-festooned axe. She rather liked the look of that. Maybe get one for Unit Two?
"So..." Shinji looked up from where he'd been reading the back of a DVD. "I'm the Damsel In Distress?!"
"Yeah, pretty much," agreed Karen.
"If it fits, it fits," commented Asuka.
"Th-that's not fair," whined Shinji.
"Oh wow, he is SO in character," said Karen.
Batman gave a little sigh of relief.
"That happy that they're on their way again?" asked Flash.
"You have no idea how annoying that was," said Batman. "Can you imagine the reactions that would occur if I showed up with one of those in a little Bat-costume?"
"Crobat!"
Batman facepalmed. "Don't tell me."
"Uhm, you don't want me to tell you that there's a Crobat, a Gligar, and a Houndour that have applied to be sidekick characters?" asked Flash.
"I work alone," said Batman.
"With the exception of Robin, Batgirl, Oracle..." began Wonder Woman.
Batman looked at the creature on Wonder Woman's shoulder. "Oh, that's wrong."
"No," said Wonder Woman, idly scritching the creature under its chin. "It's an Eevee. It left its pack, wants me to evolve it."
"Eevee!"
"Sorry, evolve her."
"I think I'm going back to the Batcave."
"Crobat!"
"Gligar!"
(sigh)
Batman paused. "You. You can be quiet?"
"Urf."
"Batcave could use extra security?" asked Flash.
"If it's as intelligent as a human, and has an enhanced sense of smell," said Batman thoughtfully. "No. No it would never work."
The silver dome became green streaks, which slowly faded out.
"Okay. Another try, another miss."
"Gotta admit though," said Jiraiya. "This looks interesting."
"It's a library," said Asuka.
"Maybe it's got a book on how to teleport?" asked Shinji hopefully.
"I can't help it," said Naruto. "I think I know how to get back to any of the places I been, but I keep feeling something tugging me away when we get moving."
"An outside force?" asked Jiraiya thoughtfully. "Then maybe we ought to investigate this place. It just might have something useful."
"Pika pi?"
"Can any of you read?" asked Jiraiya.
The vast majority of pokemon indicated no.
"Okay, everyone keep track of how you got here," said Jiraiya. "The dust is fairly thin but I get the feeling this place has been abandoned a long long time," said Jiraiya. "It's too bad we don't have a directory."
"Like that one?" asked Naruto, pointing at Jiraiya's feet.
Jiraiya blinked and looked at the little signs pointing in various directions. "That's... a good start."
