It was no problem finding volunteers. There were enough spirits or elemental beings who were curious or bored, had lifespans that went on for thousands of years, and had some interest in the bright spark of human existence. One of the major hurdles for such beings was that they were simply too alien to exist in a mode of reality that was compatible with a human universe.
As one of his other essence-fragments had already developed an interfacing mechanism for such, it was easy to copy that and put things in place.
Naruto was a young boy yearning to be a hero. It was, in Toltiir's admittedly limited understanding of such things, normal for heroes to start out with just one specialty and to acquire power-ups and more options as their story progressed.
So there should be a single summoning to begin with, right?
Hmmm. He'd just put the offer out there and already there were forty-six responses.
Forty-seven now. Hmmm.
Let's see, use a template based on some character from another series to form the anchor/interface for something that was decidedly inhuman. That way, if Nyarlathotep decided to join in - she'd be a cute young girl probably called Nyar-chan or something like that.
Whereas a fire elemental might end up as a sort-of Hikaru Shidou from one of those Magic Knight Rayearth universes. Or a storm spirit looking like an anime Ororo. Or...
Well, the database WAS pretty extensive. Had to be, really.
Seventy-three responses? Hmm. How many read the exclusions, provisions, limitations, and other applicable sections of the agreement?
Ah. Twelve. Figures.
Wow, up above a hundred responses now. Apparently word had circulated.
Much better results than the last time he'd tried something like that. Which had been when he'd tried manipulating events so that the Tendo family had never been engaged to Ranma Saotome and another family's daughters had been the result of a similar deal. That hadn't been very amusing. Well, mostly not that amusing. Actually, hadn't there been a couple of spots of extremely amusing?
Elsewhere:
Ranma Saotome held up a hand, and his Sekirei sparring partner stumbled as she stopped her forward charge.
"Goshujin-sama?" asked one of his other Sekirei, wearing the little maid outfit his mother had arranged for way too many of them. And their swimsuits. And their other little 'enticing' outfits that he wished he could have burned or buried or something.
"I just got the feeling that somewhere, somehow, someone is laughing at me," said Ranma.
"It must be Ryoga!" declared yet another of his Sekirei. "I, Number Five, Matsu, shall locate him!"
"Yeah, right, knock yourself out," said Ranma, who was careful NOT to say that to certain other Sekirei who might take him literally.
He swore, sometimes he felt as if his life were just one big running joke.
Now, what KIND of physical forms. Something like pokemon would be fairly easy. Maybe instead of those critters, he could use chibi-mecha? A little meter-tall Gundam shooting energy bursts and using a energy saber?
Toltiir activated a simulation and watched it. While only 55% accurate in depiction of how events could go, that was still enough to check for viability, right? At least the obvious problems would be showing themselves.
No. That didn't work at all. The first one got ripped apart and lacked self-repair functions so every time Naruto summoned it, it was more and more damaged. He could add a bit that every time one was summoned, it repaired itself - but that might be a bit traumatic for young Naruto.
What about Sekirei? The number of applicants was well over the required 109 now. And having him summon Miya to begin with who would adopt a big-sister attitude towards Naruto could be amusing.
Hmmm. Maybe not. The first simulation run had Orochimaru anxious to get ahold of Sekirei genetic technology and most of the Sekirei themselves had a power level of low chunin. It could work though. Maybe. Just the scene of Miya confronting Kakashi and doing her Mask Of Doom for reading porn in front of kids - that had a certain amount of funny.
Okay, put that one in the 'Maybe' column.
Unbreakable Machine Doll? No. Not quite.
Saber Marionette? No. Same problem with the Gundams. Even worse actually as they looked human until someone used an acidic jutsu or a lot of fire.
Come to think of it, those tended to be bad for most targets anyway. So normal human types generally shouldn't be used, and those not able to be healed or repaired by the methods available on that world would be best not used either.
Human enough that nin-medic techniques were a possibility, but at least low grade superhuman or having some special skills or training then. In the nonhuman possibilities, had physiologies close to something familiar in that world that someone would be knowledgeable enough to figure things out. That still left a LOT of possibilities.
