"So Naruto's experiment this week worked out?" asked the Hokage.
"Yes, though Lord Jiraiya expresses the desire for more women closer to his own age," said the chunin.
"Predictable and understandable," said the Hokage. "So that's the tally so far? At least we have limited him to one attempt per week. Status on these rescuees?"
"Terra Branford, Nadia 'Marle' Senju, Ayla, Lucca, and Hitomi are all at the Academy," said the chunin. "As are most of the dark elves, light elves, catgirls, sea elves, Viera, pixie, undine, dryad, efreeta, oriad, and the occasional odd human."
"Understandable," said Hiruzen Sarutobi, knowing that most of them would probably wash out. It was just that their rescuer was in the Academy and that 'ninja' was seen as a career path of importance.
"This week's results were unusual," said the chunin.
The Hokage raised an eyebrow at the results of previous attempts being deemed 'less unusual' than whatever had gone on today.
"Hinata," said Terra, addressing a shrub. "You're acting like a stalker."
"Uhm."
"And not in a good way," said Terra. "Mind you, it's a little better than some of Sasuke's fangirls treat him. But there's a couple you're getting pretty close to."
"...That bad?"
"Yes," said Terra. "Look, I understand the whole 'shy' thing. More or less. And at least you're not as bad as that girl who keeps disguising herself as various weird things and pouncing on Sasuke."
"But I can't..."
"Then I'll just have to take Naruto without any competition from you," said Terra, feigning great loss. "Too bad. I thought we could be friends and still chase after the same boy."
"Friends?" asked a girl who was still hiding in the shrubbery.
In another world, another time, Naruto Uzumaki would have seen the cute smile that one Sakura Haruno could manifest from time to time - usually directed at Sasuke Uchiha.
In another world, another time, Naruto would have been alone and without accomplishment. Nobody would come forward to be his friend when they noticed the amount of disapproval from the adults directed at the boy.
That would be then, this was now.
Naruto paused as he noticed several of the girls his "Rescue Girls No Jutsu" had pulled in were now sitting in his much-more-crowded classroom. He was understandably very proud of this particular jutsu, even if the various details of it were all sealed away and he could only experiment with it under ANBU supervision at scheduled times. Which was really a drag but it wasn't at least cut off from him entirely.
Yet seeing them HERE was unusual. Not so much Terra, who'd been here a few days now.
"Naruto! Hi!" said the various girls. In unison. At the same time even.
"Uhm, hi," said Naruto, not at all sure what was going on.
Several of the girls immediately went to giggling, which had Naruto wondering if something was going on. Finally he just went ahead and went into the classroom. One of the conditions on his being allowed to experiment was if he kept his grades from being absolute last.
"Okay, we've got some new faces here," said Iruka Umino.
"New FACES?!" asked Kiba Inuzuka. "They've got pointy ears! And tails! And some of them got..."
"Stop while you're ahead," Iruka warned Kiba.
"But..." said Kiba. "They smell funny."
Dead silence.
"Before anyone does anything rash, save all violent responses for either free time or when you're outside the school building," said Iruka.
"Hah!" said Kiba. "Bring it on."
Akamaru whined.
"As scary as your mom is, you're dissing girls?" asked Tobio, turning in his desk to regard the Inuzuka.
"Uhm, well, they're not in my clan," said Kiba, experiencing a moment of doubt as it occurred to him that someone could TALK to his mom. And his mother, as noted, was sufficiently scary to make up for these girls not being so scary.
"How long before the time rolls around for break?" asked one of the little girls.
