Time's Lament: Okay, also wrong, but maybe not as much as we thought? (LIME) [Episode 250179]

by Josh the Aspie

Girl-type Ranma sighed, scrubbing herself down. Given the events she was sadly aware that she had participated in last night, she was giving herself an extra-thorough scrubbing. First of all, due to her aqua-transsexual nature, she was extremely nervous about the possibility of accidentally getting herself p... p... "No!" She admonished herself, shaking her head violently to dispel certain images. "I'm not gonna think about that!"

Ranma dumped a bucket of water over her head to clean off the suds. "Brrr. That's cold." There was no way this was good. There was no way this could even make sense. There was... a way she might be able to figure out what was going on. The room to Soun's bedroom was open, and it and the room to the bathroom faced each-other.

Moving slowly, and carefully, Ranma settled into the tub, glad once again to regain his male form, then curled up below the window. Ranma then slid the window open so that he could listen in, gloating to himself. "Heh. And people think I'm stupid. You don't get to be a master of martial arts without being able to figure out how to do stuff!"

"Father." Nabiki began, her voice full of steel, her first two questions being more a statement that Soun would give her the information she desired. "What did you and Saotome do. Why was Nodoka in your bed. And why on earth is Kodachi here?"

"Nabiki I..." Soun began, full of bluster, then cowed before his daughter's growing signs of indignation. While she was not the most formidable martial artist in the family by far, Nabiki was not someone that you crossed... and from what his Anything Goes danger sense told him... crossing her would be an even worse idea right now, than usual. "... think that this may take some explaining."

"You... think?" Nabiki asked, as she rolled her eyes, scorn evident in her voice. "That has got to me the biggest under-statement I have heard all year." She sighed, brushing her bangs out of the way of her eyes. Nabiki's expression was a combination of irritation, and exasperation.

"What about the concept that the Kuno clan is not the most well-balanced family in Japan?" Soun tried. After all, Saotome was not the only man to learn distraction techniques at the hands of the master.

Suddenly, a loud, coarse, and male shout could be heard through the walls. "It needn't be scalding woman! Wait, where are you taking me?"

Nabiki's facade broke enough to allow a huge sweat drop to fall down her head, and to force her to take a moment to re-school her face. "I have to start on damage control if you want any hope of this not turning into a disaster, so start talking. Did you or did you not have sex with Nodoka?" She asked, her voice brooking no equivocation.

"Y-yes Nabiki." Soun replied. "I-I mean no Nabiki. I mean I didn't have sex with her!" Say what you want about Tendo Soun, the man knew when not to cross sources of danger.

Wiping her brow with the back of her hand, Nabiki nodded. "Good. Then you didn't with Kodachi either?" She asked, looking more relaxed already.

Then she became less relaxed at the lack of response. And less relaxed still when she saw his guilty face looking away. "Daddy..." she said, softly, and with less strength in her voice than before. "I need you to keep talking. This is important."

Ever since her mother had died, it seemed like her fathers strength... physical, mental, emotional, had been robbed from him. Like when she died, the better part of his soul had been taken with her. She gently laid a hand on her father's shoulder, knowing that at this point, he needed to be coaxed, or she wouldn't get what she needed out of him.

"After Ranma and Akane's failed wedding attempt, we decided to wait a while."

Nabiki nodded. "Yes, I know, that was only two weeks ago. Keep going."

Nodding, Soun continued. "We intended too give them a chance, in any case. But Ranma was unable to convince any of his fiances that they had no hope, despite how much he loved Akane. Ranma and Akane were getting even more frustrated with each-other than usual, and Akane was blaming Ranma for everything. Ranma was even talking about trying to make another trip to China! The damage and bills were piling up, and..."

"I know all of that." Nabiki said, a bit of irritation showing over the re-cap Tendo Soun was giving to try to excuse his behavior, but she did not snap. "So what, exactly, did you do?"

Soun winced. "Well, Saotome and I decided that if the others just saw how in love Akane and Ranma were, and we gave them a little nudge so that they'd get married no matter what anyone else said..."

Nabiki put her hand over her face, covering her eyes for the fail she knew she was about to hear. She wished she had a Riker for a double face-palm. Scratch that, she had two subordinates, and she wanted neither of them to hear anything about any of this.

"... so we purchased a pouch of magical powder, said to bring out the true feelings of love that people had for one another, and magnify them to the point that they would be forever joined!"

Nabiki looked up over her fingers at her father's earnest expression. He wasn't kidding. "... it magnifies love that's... already there?" Nabiki asked, a sense of skeptical confusion starting to build in her, as she saw her father nodding in reply. "But that would mean... that Ranma... and that woman..."

Soun grinned as he boasted of the powder. "Yes. The master vouched for the effects personally!"

This shock, following so closely on the heels of the last, sent Nabiki keeling over onto the bed, threads of her hair flying out from her head with a sproing. "You... don't say." "You can't trust anything that man says about love." Nabiki mentally remarked, already breaking her Father's record for most understated comment of the year.
