"It's a weasel, isn't it?" asked Kabuto, wondering why his spy report on Konoha was being set to the side like this.
"Oh, zoology isn't your particular field? Pity," said Orochimaru, not sounding as if he regarded it as anything other than an opportunity to show off his own knowledge. "It started out as a creature called a mongoose. I managed to cross it with a beast called a 'honey badger' and then infused the beast with a large amount of chakra to the point where it is literally ready to explode at any moment. Yet look - it still survives despite what should be fatal chakra poisoning."
"Fascinating," said Kabuto, sounding bored. "Do you want my report or not?"
"Ah, I suppose I can dissect this fellow a bit later," said Orochimaru. "Come along then. You can tell me all about it while I tour the cages of human prisoners. You'll enjoy that a bit more, I'm sure."
"That IS more along the line of my interests," admitted Kabuto.
The mongoose watched them go, then set teeth and claws to the cage bars - kicking away the straw to reveal the section already scored by previous efforts.
North High School, Nishinomiya, Osaka
Itsuki Koizumi considered his words carefully, even though Haruhi seemed totally focussed on the monitor. "This does not bode well."
"W-w-what do you mean?" asked Mikuru.
"If Kyon manages to get back, having been trained by ninja? How will he fit in when he's always been the 'normal one' amongst our group?" asked Itsuki.
Konohagakure, Nagato's home
Kyon could hear Naruto giving off one of those sword-techniques as he tried to cover Nagato.
The crashing of the door had him turn just in time to catch a face full of fangs and claws.
Oh great. I'm going to be killed by a ninja weasel. Waitaminute, didn't this happen in a Monty Python sketch?
four days later:
"Gah?" asked Kyon, waking up and taking in the surroundings very quickly. Antiseptic smell + white walls + narrow very uncomfortable bed + IV stuck in his arm = hospital.
"Good, you're awake," said Kakashi.
"Eh?" asked Kyon, pointing to the nearby chair with a sleeping Nagato.
"You saved her from being attacked by a vicious rabid ninja attack weasel," said Kakashi with a shrug. "Or so she thinks anyway."
"Okayyy," said Kyon, reaching for the railing to ease into a seated position.
Crunch
Kyon lifted up his hand and looked at the section of crumpled aluminum tubing where his hand had just left a lasting impression. "Eh?"
"There have been some changes," said Kakashi.
