Ranma Saotome was in a quandary. Thanks to the Great Will of the Universe, his original fiancees had been switched with virtual parangons of niceness and love. Now it was even more difficult to make a choice between them ! The thought of hurting them if he chose one to be his wife was unbearable ! Stringing them along was no better ! To do that with Akane, Shampoo, Ukyo and Kodachi was one thing but not with them...
They didn't pressure him directly, of course. They were their eternal loving, supportive selves when he was with them, acting like best friends would. Ranma was feeling guilty, they obviously deserved a better fiancee than him but they stuck with him through thick and thin...
Not that all was roses and chocolates, mind you. Some people had a vested interest in who would become his wife and meddled in his love life at every opportunity.
A woman named Urd, a relative of Belldandy, proclaiming to be the Cupid of Love had decided that she and Ranma would make the cutest couple and tried to speed things along with various schemes and potions. Ranma shuddered, remembering when one of her love pills made him fall in love with Nabiki... Now, he always double-checked his food and ignored her suggestions most of the time.
Ayeka Jurai, leader of the Jurai tribe, supported her sister and goddess' right to marry Ranma. Thanks to her, he had learned new techniques and with what happened when Kagato kidnapped Tsunami, he could tap into the Jurai power now. But some of her ideas of courtship included whips, chains, high heels and spiked leather "And remember, Sasami ! He has to call you the Queen !"
From time to time, Mutsumi received help from another relative of Belldandy, a young girl named Skuld. For some reason, she found the idea of him marrying Belldandy abhorent. She was very enthusiastic but lacked experience and restraint, her various plots tended to explode in her face. It didn't help that Mutsumi was a little... scatterbrained as well.
And there were the other girls...
Apparently the Great Will of the Universe had decided to make a thorough job and switched all the girls who had played a role in Ranma's life with nicer ones (except for his mother).
Tohru Honda had been engaged by Genma and her grandfather for a fruits' basket when they were still only babies. Now she was going to Furinkan High School and had a part-time job to support herself. Her parents were dead and she wished to live on her own. She didn't take her engagement to Ranma seriously, she wanted a friend first and foremost. But the infamous Saotome charm was slowly wearing down her defenses.
Sylphiel Kuno was grateful to Ranma after he helped her escape her brother's influence and fulfill her dream of a religious vocation. He often talked to her, needing a girl's opinion on his messed up life, one that wasn't interested in him. If he only knew...
And last but not least, Kazami Mizuho-sensei. Ranma knew her secret, that she was an alien here to observe human society.He had seen her arrive in her ship after all. A little incident in a compromising position led Ranma to seek out after-school classes with her to defuse rumors. He was now preparing Toudai with her help, to Genma's dismay (all that study time was lost for martial arts !). And the attractive alien teacher found it more and more difficult to keep a strict student-teacher relationship.
Violence had lessened in Ranma Saotome's life but it was even more complicated now...
