Akane's Labor -- Starfleet: Original Canonical Setting [Episode 25227]

by Andrew Greaves

"Hmmph," Celeste continued. "Just a standard Star Trek setting, albiet without all of the temporal snarls and manipulations caused by that damnable Temporal Cold War (TCW)."

"So basically,"replied Mambo Jack, "īt's the true and original Star Trek milieu."

"Yup. Major threats include the Dominion and the Borg, although the latter definitely don't have, and never have had, a Queen. None of the events involving her, or resulting from her actions, are anything about apocryphal. The Ferengi also have a large purely capitalistic corporate state on the opposite side of Cardassian Space from the Klingon Empire along the Federation frontier that is fully the equal of any of the major powers in the Alpha and Beta quadrants. The biggest threat, however, are the Grigari, standing athwart the shadows from beyond Borg Space."

"What do you mean?"

"The Grigari, who have actually been rumoured knowledge since the earliest years of warp flight, are absolute masters of genetic manipulation and technology. After two violent and bloody Eugenics Wars, and all of the misery and woe they created, the collective human hatred of such is so all-encompassing as to be practically atavistic. One of the least debated actions undertaken by the Federation in the TCW was their annihilation."

"Let's not get into a debate about ethics," Mambo Jack replied. "I take it that Archer's NX-01 Enterprise never existed? Why were the Vulcans so assertive and manipulative, anyways"

"No, that situation was a result of the TCW. As it eventually turns out, the Vulcans in that history were made aware of the Borg threat and were subtly shaping events to prepare for it. Of course, that history would eventually culminate in the destruction of the Imperial Star Fleet at Wolf 359 and the ascendency of the Klingon-Cardassian alliance."

"Hold on. Are you saying that Emperor Tiberius the First, renowned as 'the bloodiest, vilest, most depraved dictator in Human history' is the philosophical heir to Captain Jonathan Archer?"

"Frightening, isn't it."

With that, Celeste turned to a different screen. "In any case, that's another four score years down the road. Shall we see how the changes have altered the situation with regard to Akane's labour?"
