Anime Trek: The Definition of Heroes [Episode 26692]

“Crap.” Mambo Jack remarked as a red light began flashing. He glanced at his co-worker. “We got us a problem. ‘Pears that we got us a flux that caused an instability in the dimensional weave.”

“How bad?” Celeste asked sharply.

“Cross-dimensional contamination,” Mambo Jack grumbled and raised an eyebrow. “Not too sure how screwed up this is yet,” he stated and stabbed a few buttons on the computers. They bleeped and chirped and whole screens darkened alarmingly. “Cheap ass, second rate garbage,” Jack growled and slammed a fist onto a console which responded by booting itself back up, “Let’s see... oh shit.”

“The instability is increasing...” Celeste said sharply, “look at the deformation of the subspace wavelength pattern. This is bad. We might have to write off this entire Universe.”

Mambo Jack shook his head, “Your girl sure can fuck things up can’t she?” he snarled. “Dump the Labor. She’s gotta go find some other Universe to screw with.”

Celeste bristled and opened her mouth, “This wasn’t her fault. The instability...”

“I don’t care,” Jack retorted, “the problem now is this contamination. Without having to run the Labor scenario, things sorta stabilized but we gotta run damage control or the entire Universe is going down the crapper.”

Celeste blinked. “But if we shut down the Labor Scenario, then how do we repair the damage?”

“The old fashioned way. We hope our boys in that timeline are on the ball and can get their shit together in time to duct tape their Universe back together without screwing things up too much,” Mambo Jack said leaning back in his creaking chair and absently folded his legs onto a convenient computer console. “That’s pretty much what heroes do baby,” he remarked with a wink and a leer.

Celeste raised a fine eyebrow as Jack found a Cuban cigar and stuck it in his mouth and began searching for his lighter. “Really,” she said in a dry dust tone. “I thought that was the definition of courageous stupidity and complete dumb luck.”

There was a brief click as the wheel flipped and the flame ignited the end of the cigar as Jack absorbed that sarcastic statement. He frowned for a moment and then shrugged. “Actually that’s pretty much the definition of heroes too,” he admitted.
