The technician blinked, double checked his readouts, then stabbed down on a button. "Don Corneo!"
The intercom was silent for a moment, when it reactivated it was with the sound of a young woman screaming in pain in the background.
"This better be important," said the voice on the other end as the woman's voice went down to whimpers.
"Coded databurst sent through t-mail. The TIFA unit is active."
"Someone found her? Excellent. Where?"
"Current location is Gravitas Station," said the technician. "Or at least was at the time of transmission - a little over a week ago."
"Excellent. Prepare a retrieval squad."
"What the heck is all this?" asked Naruto as he stepped out of the changing room. "Do I need half this stuff?"
"There are two choices when going about in unknown territory," said Jiraiya, his head back and eyes mostly closed as he went into what Naruto had come to term as "lecture mode" of late. "One, you attempt to dress in a manner that fits in with the normal populace. Two, you go extravagant and loud. In this case, we're going with a bit of both. Look at the crowds. What kind of clothing are they wearing?"
Naruto looked outside the store for a few moments. "I dunno. Mostly they're wearing stuff that covers their bodies?"
"Those would be pilots, crew, and other professionals who work in space," supplied Jiraiya. "Those clothes help keep them alive in case this space station starts losing air."
"Eh?" asked Naruto. "You sure about that?"
"I've been researching things," said Jiraiya, tapping the gadget he'd gotten from the publisher. "Information and then preparation can keep you alive, where ignorance can kill."
"Oh," said Naruto, at a loss for a comeback.
"Trust you to find one in orange," muttered Jiraiya, stepping back to fully look over Naruto's outfit.
The clerk had wandered close and thought this was a point to bring up. "Visual sensors. Orange shows up against a number of backgrounds in human vision and equivalents. That's a survival suit such as asteroid miners wear."
"Ah, then something else would probably be better," said Jiraiya. "Neither of us knows a thing about mining."
"But it was the only thing they had in this color," complained Naruto.
"How about something like that," said Jiraiya after looking over some displays. He helpfully stabbed a finger at it. "It has a little orange, but is mostly black and blues."
"The orange bits can be made flourescent or dulled by settings on the command studs," pointed out the salesclerk as she indicated a panel on the chest that could be opened up.
"Well, that's good," said Jiraiya. "It come with a helmet?"
"Nobody can tell who I am!" complained Naruto.
"Good," said Jiraiya, putting a card through a reader and then checking numbers. "Okay. Let's see if we can get a ship."
