Mischief Fragment: Sniper-Shot In Da Dark [Episode 254841]

"Tree climbing," said Anko.

"'Tree climbing'," repeated Sasuke.

Naruto walked over to a tree, placed one foot against it, then walked about halfway up. "I know how to do this. It's a bit rough on the ankles though."

"Well, normally you just do that standing at ninety degrees from the ground thing when you're trying to impress someone," said Anko. "You run up the walls, not stand on them. What about water walking?"

"Yeah, I learned how to do that awhile back," admitted Naruto. "Chakra control exercise."

"Good," said Anko. "You can teach the other two."

Naruto explained the channelling of chakra, demonstrated, and then used the "Sniper Scope" ability to monitor their chakra use.

Sakura immediately figured out how to do it, but was sufficiently worn out from her earlier exercises that she couldn't handle the physical rigors for very long.

Sasuke was a bit more problematic as he was not normally inclined to listen to Naruto, but he had to learn this and water walking to gain more control of the terrain for meeting his stated goals. That in mind, he contented himself with the occasional insult and hostility towards his two team members.

Neji Hyuga was not happy at all.

It must have been luck and sheer chance that allowed the 'dead last' of his class to defeat him. That and he had gone into the mission without any foreknowledge of his adversary's capabilities.

The plan that they'd worked out should have worked. Lee performed a distraction, then Neji would follow up from a different angle. Grab the client the genin were guarding while said genin were still thrown into chaos by Lee's apparent attack.

Instead, Neji had been knocked out before he'd even begun his own charge.

This did not sit well with the genius of the branch family of the Hyuga clan.

He used his Byakugan to spot the group and practically sneered anew. The one who'd struck him from ambush was trying to train the other two in tree climbing? How pathetic. How... the boy was staring in his direction?

Neji dropped the Byakugan. Clearly the blonde genin wasn't completely useless if he'd realized he was being spied upon. This merited consideration.

"Today's mission is... dog walking," said Anko without any enthusiasm.

"Wonderful," said all three genin in a tone that indicated a complete and utter lack of sincerity.

"I have other business this afternoon, so Naruto will continue to train you in tree-climbing. When you're done with that, start on the water-walking," said Anko.

Naruto didn't make a sound as their sensei vanished.

"Hey!" said Sakura three hours later. "I haven't been hypnotized or genjutsu-ed once today!"

"So?" asked Sasuke. "Monty hasn't shown up either."

"Oh, nothing," said a much more cheerful Sakura.
