She would do it today. She would go up to him and she would invite him to lunch! She had already gotten further than she ever had, approaching his team even though Neji was there!
All she had to do was take a few steps forward, hold up the lunch in her hands, and mention that after all that exercise the thermos of cold tea should hit the spot. Simple, right?
And have all of their attention on her.
And Neji could say something to her father.
And they could be too busy to break for lunch.
And and and... there really were a lot of ways it could go wrong, wasn't there?
Maybe she should wait and just...
"Hey," said Tenten, intending to say that the training ground was in use and that this younger girl should try another one.
"YEEK!" squeaked the girl, turning and running.
Tenten blinked at the swinging foliage that marked the girl's path, then down at the large lunch. "Wasn't that a Hyuga? Oh, she must have been bringing Neji lunch. What's in here anyway? Oooh. Croquettes."
Kakashi looked towards the bushes, but didn't see anything. However, after several minor missions dealing with ghosts and such - he had determined what the presence of one felt like.
He also didn't move his headband as he had already determined that the Sharigan was NOT equipped for Things From Beyond. Maybe later, after getting used to it in small doses.
Sasuke stood back as well, recognizing the sort of presence. "Naruto?"
"Not actively malign," said Naruto as he focussed on it. "Seems more curious than anything. You getting anything, Sakura?"
Sakura startled as she realized she was being consulted despite her inexperience. Her hand quickly went to one of the pouches on her belt and pulled out a particular set of wards. "I can't feel its presence, other than that 'cold' feeling. I've got a containment ward though."
"Not a typical yurei - the reikon has no dark aspect," asked Naruto after a few moments. "Might be an ubume or zashiki-warashi."
Kakashi kept an eye out, but was curious. A mother who died giving birth, or under similar circumstances, whose spirit continued to look out for her children was the ubume. Zashiki-warashi were children who died and lingered as mischievous spirits.
A gentle glow spilled out from a light that Naruto formed in the air, and into that came a figure.
"That's neither a motherhood-ghost or a kid-ghost," pointed out Kakashi.
The dog, Kakashi judged it to be a little bigger than Pakkun, sniffed the ground as it walked into the light. It looked them over in turn, wagging its tail and looking hopeful.
"You again?" asked Sasuke.
"Uff," said the dog.
"I thought you exorcised it," said Sasuke to Naruto.
"I did, but it isn't a hostile spirit so I was reluctant to do anything particularly harsh to it," said Naruto.
"Uff!" said the dog.
"Uhm, so it IS a dog spirit and not something that merely looks like one?" asked Kakashi.
"Uff! Uff!" said the dog spirit.
"Looks like he wants us to follow him," noted Naruto.
