Wherever they went, Ranma would be with them. It was, as Ami pointed out, not a good idea to leave him behind. If they did so, he would be left with by himself, and could get into trouble that way. And who knew what he would do if 'abandoned' by his lifelong friends. Or, as she put it, he might be hurt if he came along, but he would be if they left him behind.
But the clincher was mentioned by Hotaru: Genma. Sometime, somehow, Genma would show up, like he always did, and without them there, he'd be free to do whatever he wanted to Ranma. And all that they had done, all the care that they had given him, would have been wasted under the portly fighter's supposed 'guidence'.
Which was why they were talking to a disgruntled Ranma as the pigtailed boy, currently a pigtailed girl, sat with her arms across her chest, and a frilly yellow dress draped over her lap. "So what'd ya want ta talk ta me about?"
"Well," said Rei, "we've got some plans we'd like to talk with you about."
"Not more dresses for me to 'try on'?"
"No, no, no. Travel plans, that's all."
"'Travel'? To where?"
"We were thinking of traveling back to Japan," put in Makoto.
The martial artist blinked. "Huh? Why?"
Setsuna gave what she hoped was a reassuring smile. "Why not? There is nothing more to be done here for the moment, and Japan would be much better to stay while we try to... come to terms with our... situation."
"But how's bein' in Japan help?"
"Hot water on demand, for one."
"Oh."
"Yes, and Juuban should have more than enough modern plumbing and bath houses."
"Juuban? Why there?"
"You see..."
"We hit it on the map!" blurted Minako.
"What?" asked a confused Ranma.
The blonde gave a smile that was a little too wide, but the pigtailed girl missed it. "We let Usagi jab a finger into a map with her eyes closed and that's where it hit."
"Ahh... Kinda funny way to do it..."
"But," inserted Setsuna, "it was as good a way as any to find a starting point."
"I gotta give you that. Where are we gonna stay?"
"Ummm... we'll figure something out when we get there."
"Ya know, I remember Pop's talkin' about a friend who lives in Nerima. We could always see if we could stay there..."
"That's something to... think about."
"And what about Pop?"
"Hmmm..."
"Ain't we gonna wait for him?"
The reincarnated-Senshi looked at each other before Setsuna spoke again. "Don't worry. It is most likely that he'll go back eventually..."
"I guess..."
"Well then," pronounced Haruka, "we'd better get ready."
The group nodded, and went to prepare for the trip. Having not much to pack, including the new clothes that they had just brought, it did not take long and they went in search of some place to stay for the night before heading out the next day.
