Well, except that one time. And that was because it had turned out that her familiar had been a master assassin and done away with all the annoying people at school because of an unthinking command on her part.
She HAD been generally a lot more careful of orders she gave her familiars after that.
"Louise? What exactly was that?"
Louise looked up to see her sensei, Colbert, standing a few feet away. "Hm? Oh. Just a spell to give me some information about my familiar."
"I see," said Colbert, drawing near enough to see the book she'd been reading from dealt with advanced divinational magic. "And the results?"
"His species is 'kaiju' and his name is 'Gojira'," said Louise. "The familiar-rune is one that allows me to instantly summon him when I need him. Well, nearly instant."
"I see," said Colbert, pausing then for a moment before continuing. "What exactly would you summon something like that for?"
"Well, Gojira is pretty much a last resort," said Louise, sitting back in her library chair. "If we were attacked by undead, elves, undead elves..."
"So she's not a 'Zero' anymore," noted Kirche.
Tabitha didn't apparently react.
"Not that I won't keep teasing her," Kirche assured the silent bluenette. "Don't worry on that account."
Tabitha turned a page.
"What about that familiar. What WAS that?" asked Kirche. "I sensed slumbering fire within it. Yet it was not just of Fire, but it was something entirely else. Tabitha, have you run across such a beast in your studies?"
Tabitha didn't look up, merely moving her head once from side to side.
"Didn't think so," admitted Kirche. "Something THAT big would certainly draw attention to itself. So the shortest student has the biggest familiar. I wonder if there's some correlation there."
Tabitha didn't react visibly to the extent that anyone not very familiar with her would have noticed.
"So. You know something." Kirche considered her friend. "Something about that familiar?"
Tabitha actually glanced up from her book.
"No, not the familiar," said Kirche aloud, one finger held to her lower lip as she considered. "And there was something off about Louise as well. All day. She was acting very different from how I expected. And very friendly towards that one maid, which I surely would have noticed before now. That maid was quite confused by the change in behavior as well."
Tabitha didn't react at all, flipping back one page in her book, then forward again as if checking some point in its narrative.
"I'll check with the maid first, she most likely knows something," decided Kirche. "It's not like Louise to form any attachments with the staff."
