Misato still managed to overcome her drowsiness as the monorail made its way into Tokyo 3. She was shifting around in her seat as she watched the railway lights streaking past the windows along with the secured colony city. The war with the ZSA almost seemed nonexistent when the peace made itself known to the average citizen of the city.
As Misato continued to drift towards sleep, she just realized something from the slap she gave herself earlier. “Shinji…” She knew she heard that name before.
*Flashback*
Earlier in the day, Misato Katsuragi received a mission debriefing from Fuyutsuki himself. After a brief introduction, he presented a folder with a photo of a young boy inside. He instructed, “We need you to find this boy.”
Looking over the file curiously, Misato asked her superior, “Who is he?”
“His name is Shinji Ikari.”
Misato was rather confused by the name of this boy and could only wonder out loud, “Ikari… Is he…”
Fuyutsuki answered, “Indeed. The reasons for his disappearance and his current whereabouts are unknown.”
Misato still had the folder in her hand and tried to understand, “So how do I bring him back here? Will he even want to return?”
“Either find a way to convince him to come here or capture him if necessary.”
Misato was not pleased with the idea. She was supposed to go out in the world and wonder around aimlessly hoping that she could come across just this one boy. Maybe if all three Tokyos were just one big city it would be easy. She could only hope for more advice when she asked, “And this is the most I have to go off of to find him?”
Fuyutsuki offered one final warning before she left, “I’m afraid so. He couldn’t have left Tokyo 2, but it is currently the most we have. We have to hope he is still here and can be found. He needs to be found as soon as possible Katsuragi. The ZSA could well be on its way to mobilizing its forces.”
Misato understood the pressure of the situation and saluted, “I understand sir. I’ll do my best.”
*Back to present*
Misato stood up and looked over the younger boy staring up at the monorail ceiling while trying not to be noticed. It was definitely him. He matched everything in the report. It was either fate or luck that brought him to her in the course of just a few hours for that day. She wasn’t sure if there was ever going to be another chance for her to find him either. She had to make a decision on how to proceed, either convince him to come with her or make him…
