Later that day, Akane stalked trough the house. She had overheard the fathers blustering about how things have been quiet lately so it must be time to call up a priest and 'join the schools'... Those damned idiots. Now she would have to pick a fight with Ranma again just to get the old men to back off for a few days. It was something she really was starting to regret having to do. With an overly dramatic huff she stalked off towards the kitchen to make some tea while she waited for Ranma to get back. She wold probably have to accuse him of spending time with Ukyo or Shampoo or something when he got back to get things started on ruining the fathers' plans for the day.
Akane's thoughts are interrupted by the sound of the front door opening and the lovely soprano voice of a hot little redhead calling "I'm home!" Akane looked towards the doorway in time to catch sight of the still damp Ranma as she meandered down the hall.
The boy turned girl paused at the door and gave Akane a lazy wave. "Hey Akane, know what Kasumi is planning on for dinner?"
A shake of her head came with Akane's answer. "Nope. She is still at the market. But if your hungry I could whip you up something."
"No thanks Akane, I'll wait." Was the quick answer. "I'd like to live trough the evening." With that Ranma made a hasty retreat towards the tea room.
Well things just got a lot easier. "Hey!" Akane put on an angry scowl and stomped off in chase, trying hard not to stare at Ranma's ass along the way. "What is that supposed to mean!"
"Same thing it always means Akane." Ranma went on in a matter of fact drawl. "You should just give up on cooking before ya kill someone."
The whole act aside, Akane actually knew her cooking was bad. Ranma may have been blunt and tactless pointing it out but she honestly felt bad about having to clutch at straws like she did to try and keep the fathers at bay. "Hey, I work hard when I cook! The least you could do is thank me!"
Ranma gave a little snort. "Working hard is not the same as working well. Even you refuse to eat your own cooking. Why should I thank you for something you wont touch with a ten foot pole yourself?"
This statement brought the sudden yet inevitable outburst of the witnesses Ranma wanted present. The two fathers burst out from seemingly nowhere to involve themselves in the argument.
The twin calls of "How dare you insult my little girl!" and "Ungrateful boy! Ask Akane to forgive you! NOW!"
Ranma jerked away from the two blustering fools and took a few more steps towards the door. "No way! Not anymore! You two run for the hills each time she tries to cook, why the hell do I get punished for trying to keep alive?"
Kami, Akane gritted her teeth as she pulled her mallet out of the Ki pocket she stored it in, If these fools would just shut up and leave us alone I'd agree with Ranma. At least he is honest with me, even if I have to act like I hate him for it. With a resigned mental sigh Akane drew back the comical blunt instrument in her hands and moved forward to deliver her anger. Sadly it could not be targeted at the two who really deserved it and instead she swung at Ranma. "RANMA NO BAKA!"
And so, Ranma found herself spiraling trough the the air towards the pond. The short flight itself really hadn't been hard to arrange. The hard part was positioning herself to take the hit just right to send her where she wanted to go when Akane took her swing and doing it without it looking like it was a setup. And really, the shot was a thing of beauty that would have made any pool shark jealous. Not so low that she hit the pond and the right amount of twist for a proper crash landing. Having to take the hit without reenforcing herself much with Ki was a going to suck but it wasn't like she was taking a punch from Ryoga.
The sight of the slim little red head she had been crushing on for over a year bouncing haphazardly against the large rock on the far side of the pond instead if into the water made Akane pale. The sickening thunk that echoed for a moment in the yard was bad. The graceless roll of the petite body as it settled on the ground against the outer wall triggered the mildly shocked "Oh crap." to pass Akane's lips.
Akane bolted over to the limp form and rolled Ranma carefully onto her back, almost afraid of what she would find. The quick examination had her relax a bit, even if she was now angry with herself. She knew Ranma could handle falls from extreme heights. It was a core of the his family's branch of the school. But this could be bad. But at least Ranma was alive. Shallow breathing. Eyes not focusing. It looked like a lot of blood from a cut on the back of Ranma's head but even small head wounds bled a lot. Damn! I shouldn't have hit her... HIM! I shouldn't have hit him. Damn! Why is it so hard not to fuss over him when he is a her.
"Look at that concern Soun! We should call priest to be here to wed them as soon as the boy is awa- ERK!" Genma was cut off as the mallet Akane threw at him bounced off the back of his head and sent his face into the wall.
"Would you two SHUT UP for once!" Instead of waiting for a reply from her father Akane picked up the limp form of Ranma and carried her into the house to set her on the couch. Soun was busily trying to pull Genma's head out of the fresh hole in the wall while trying not to draw Akane's attention.
At least she is worried about me. Ranma thought as she slipped more deeply into a meditative trance that would closely mimic being unconscious so she pass the next few hours. She still had to commit to a new 'her' that she would be when she woke up after all. Now what should the new Ranma-chan be like...
