Ranma played opossum for hours, waiting for supper to come and go. The relative silence of the house was broken now and then by concerned mutterings from Kasumi or Akane or by shouts from Genma bemoaning his weak useless son. Ranma noted with some incredulity that the one time someone, Nabiki shockingly enough, actually suggested calling for medical help the idea was ignored. It never ceased to amaze her how, with Doc Tofu gone, everyone seemed to be allergic to medical help. Ranma waited for the Panda to convince Soun to head to the bar so his old friend could lend him some comfort (and drinking money) during his trial dealing with his weak, worthless and most of all ungrateful son.
When Ranma had decided she had been out long enough she let out a melodramatic groan and started to stir from her place on the couch. Well, she tried to stir at least. But Kasumi was there in a flash to fuss a bit more and make sure Ranma was fit to be up and on her feet. Finally Ranma got a clean bill of health. "Just try to avoid anything to rough for the next few days Ranma."
"Yeah, next time someone jumps out of nowhere to attack me with no warning I'll be sure to tell em you said I have to take it easy." Come to think of it, I wonder if that might work on some of them for a few hours. At least the ones that know Kasumi might.
Kasumi just nodded and started to move back towards the kitchen before she stopped. "Oh, that's right. I saved you some supper. Would you like some hot water so you can change back before you eat?"
Here we go. It took everything Ranma had in her to look absolutly crestfallen at the suggestion from Kasumi. "Now why are you teasing me like that Kasumi, you know I try to avoid my cursed form as much as I can. Bad enough having a curse that turns me into a guy with hot water but always getting reminded of it isn't any fun." She ignored the choking sounds that came from the other side of the couch where Akane and Nabiki had been drinking tea.
"What?" Kasumi managed to look merely stunned rather than panicked. Now was not the time for panic after all. No. Plenty of time for that later when nobody was looking.
Nabiki on the other hand just sneered at Akane. "I knew you and that mallet would scramble Ranma's brains one day sis." Granted her mood was not helped by having to wipe the tea from her face thanks to Akane's spit take.
"Anyway," Ranma swung her legs off the couch, sprang up to her feet and linked her hands behind her head to stretch. That she was showing off her assets to Akane, who was staring at Ranma in shock over what she had said earlier, was a bonus. "I better go get them leftovers." With that, Ranma went off to the kitchen with a cheerful spring in her step.
As soon as Ranma had left the room Kasumi sat at the table looking troubled. "Oh, I do hope the fathers won't start trying to bash Ranma over the head to... 'cure' him like last time."
"I don't know Kasumi," Nabiki tapped her chin a moment as she thought. "this 'Ranma' sounded a lot closer to his normal self aside from thinking the male form was the curse. If it's really close I could start a pool on how long it takes them to notice. Suppose we would need Akane to ask her to spar to see though."
"What?" Akane jerked her head around from where she had watched Ranma walk out of the room. She couldn't help but note a nice feminine sway to those hips as they moved. Now she looked at Nabiki with a look of puzzlement. "How would that help any?"
"Remember," The middle Tendo looked to her younger sister, "The last time something like this happened, Ranma turned into a pacifist. If that is the case again, it could be a hazard to 'her' health now if 'she' won't fight back. This Ranma may sound rough and tumble as the normal Ranma but we need to be sure. If for no other reason than to pick up more insurance when the vultures come around." She narrowed her eyes as her sister didn't seem to get it. "Remember how few of them seem to know how to use doors?"
"Oh. Right." Shampoo, after all this time, kept making new entryways no matter how many times Akane had asked her not to. Granted, she never seemed to have trouble with windows aside from always using ones that weren't hers. Even Ryoga still came trough the walls now and then when he thought he was lost... meaning all the damn time. "Fine, I'll ask Ranma to meet me in the dojo when she is done eating."
"Right. Let me know how it looks so I can have a plan in place for tomorrow. I'll be in my room going over some homework." With that Nabiki headed upstairs. Wonder if I can get some good shots of Ranma in some dresses this time. That would bring in some good money.
Kasumi split off to tidy things up and Akane took the snack tray with her to the kitchen to have a talk with Ranma. When she walked in she froze a moment as she watched Ranma tearing into her meal at the usual inhuman speeds. Well, no need to worry about her being the overly dainty type again at least. She would have been cute and all if she didn't go on about being a bride and finding a husband and all though... Akane set the tray next to the sink and started washing the dishes to set in the drying rack. "Say, Ranma. Interested in a spar when your done eating? I'm sure you must be stiff after being..." Akane winced a bit as she paused there and chose to go with something diplomatic. "Off your feet so much of the day." She turned to face Ranma who had finished eating in record time and seemed to be thinking while she used her tongue to recover some stray rice from the tip of her nose. Oh wow... what else could she do with that tongue. NO! Bad girl! Stop! Akane tried to fight off those thoughts for the moment and not to blush while waiting for Ranma to answer.
For her part though Ranma shot Akane a warm smile. "Sounds like fun Akane...
