This seemed extremely unfair to Toltiir, especially as none of the choices were at all amusing.
So, a little insurance in one person he normally didn't do much with.
Rin was captured, fitted with an unstable seal, and became the jinchuriki of the Three Tailed Turtle. Kakashi took out an impulse buy book on fuuinjutsu and did a seal over that seal to stabilize it and then took Rin back to where an expert could do something more permanent.
Black Zetsu tried again, this time arranging for a Kiri team to infiltrate Konoha and try to destabilize that seal. Kakashi had a hunch and was there with Jiraiya and the Third Hokage. The Kiri team leapt out from ambush and then nearly soiled themselves at finding out who they were ambushing.
Black Zetsu kept trying.
Practicing a jutsu that he'd just learned, Kakashi found himself facing Rin unexpectedly and unable to stop his forward momentum. That little voice had him turn off the technique rather than watch helplessly as Rin was impaled.
About the seventh time that he was faced with such a situation, Kakashi began to suspect that his "little voice" was NOT something of his own imagination.
Rin noticed.
"So this 'little voice' tells you something and you end up having exactly the supplies you needed - like the time you 'just happened' to have those experimental healing tags?" asked Rin.
"Yes," said Kakashi. "It keeps happening. So I'm trying to force the situation to understand what that is."
"An empty training ground will help you with that?" asked Rin, looking around.
"Whoever or whatever you are," said Kakashi, raising his voice. "Show yourself."
Rin continued walking around, looking for anything amiss. One foot came down on a round object and she nearly fell, windmilling her arms briefly to keep her balance. "What the-"
Kakashi picked up the object and puzzled over it briefly. "I don't know."
"I've seen those," offered Rin. "They sell them at toy stores. The 'magic 8 ball' - you shake it and it provides answers."
Kakashi paused. "I'm pretty sure it wasn't there a minute ago."
"It's a small black ball that was hidden in the grass," noted Rin. "It COULD have just been there."
"Is my little voice there?" asked Kakashi, shaking the ball and then looking into the little window.
[Spies are everywhere.]
"So this toy just gives generic answers, right?" asked Kakashi.
"Yes, why?" asked Rin.
"Just checking," said Kakashi, shaking the ball again. "Oh mighty toy, who is my enemy?"
[Multiple answers. Try again.]
"Okay, is there a reason I have this 'little voice'?" asked Kakashi, trying again.
[Enemy watching you now.]
"Yes," said Rin, continuing to look around for any sign of ambushes because she'd really begun to get paranoid about that lately. Mainly because she'd gotten at least four in the past month. "Just generic stuff like 'yes' and 'no' and 'answer unclear' sort of responses."
"I see," said Kakashi, shaking the ball and checking without asking a question.
[Ask Jiraiya about the toad prophesy.]
"I've never really seen what's fun about a toy like that," admitted Rin. "It's completely random after all."
"Ah, yes, but I may be able to work it into a jutsu," said Kakashi, shaking the ball and checking it again.
[Stop that. Your enemy is getting suspicious.]
"I'd really like to figure out these hunches I keep getting," said Kakashi, shaking the ball again and consulting it.
"I don't think you'll get a response from that ball," offered Rin.
[This ball will self-destruct in two minutes.]
"Maybe not," Kakashi said to Rin. "On the other hand I'd like to know the why and how of it." (Shake, check)
[A passing kami says to call it a 'latent]
[kekkei genkai' or something - it will be.]
Kakashi paused before shaking and checking again.
[The son of your sensei.]
[Watch. Teach. Protect.]
[Strong enemies ahead.]
"You're right, this is useless," agreed Kakashi, tossing the ball off to the side. His eye hurt a bit as somehow there had been more words than there was room for them, but the surface was somehow large enough to contain them despite not being that big. His Sharingan was hurting from that bit of is/not.
There was an explosion, sending bits of tree and bush and dirt into the air.
"Except apparently for finding and triggering explosive traps," noted Rin aloud. "Your 'little voice' again?"
"I expect it's something of battle experience and maybe a kekkei genkai coming up," said Kakashi. "I'll figure it out eventually."
