Okay, there were WORSE things than giant spiders in this forest.
"HSSSSSSSSSS!" indicated one of those Worse Things as it began pursuing them as well.
They leapt over a stream, up some rocks, and past the skeleton of some creature that was held intact and supported by vines from nearby trees.
"CRAP!" said Naruto as he ducked under some branches that were trying to grab him.
Sasuke was silent as he dodged a similar attempt.
"AAAAAAAA!" screamed Sakura as she was scooped up. "Help!" She twisted and saw the bark of one tree opening up as the branches brought her closer. "Oh. You have to be kidding- Sasuke!"
She had a good look at Sasuke and his face as he glanced at her and then turned and ran.
"Sakura!" yelped Naruto, tugging at branches and trying to free her.
Sakura felt her body pressed up against the trunk of the tree and felt it change. Like the wood had become a thick mud that was flowing around her. "Sasuke! Help Sasuke!"
Then she couldn't see at all as the wood flowed over her, her last sight being Naruto as he continued trying to struggle with branches and reaching out for her. "come back."
"Huh?" asked Naruto, abruptly in a sewer or something with an enormous cage dominating one direction.
"What the hell have you gotten me into, brat?"
"Who?" asked Naruto.
"Who do you think, idiot?"
"The Springtime Rabbit?" asked Naruto hopefully.
"Not even close."
"Did I die?" asked Naruto, really hoping that this wasn't hell.
"No, but that one is a bit closer. I am the Ninetailed Demon Fox sealed within you. And I repeat my question 'What the HELL have you gotten me into?'"
"I thought you'd be taller," said Naruto.
"If the situation was not so dire, I wouldn't mind wasting time like this. A few threats, some insults both general and specific, roaring my rage at you and your kind. However, monkey child, you have brought me into the presence of something far more filled with rage and hate and evil than even I am capable of. Which is not something I thought possible."
Naruto heard something else. Something that cut through his own rage and resentment. Fear. The Kyubi sensed something that SCARED the freaking nine-tailed demon fox. That was a very sobering thought. "Oh. That's just great. I was waiting for my sensei to show up, working on a fuuinjutsu, Sakura hit me, and we ended up in a forest. That's all I know."
The Kyubi glared at him through the bars of his cage. "Child, caged as I am, I am of little use. Your chakra pathways and experience is not enough to survive taking on all but the smallest fragment of my power. Yet here we are and if you do not do something quickly then both of us will die and quite possibly worse."
"Worse?" asked Naruto.
"There is a Wrongness here. A Wrongness that rejects the world's very nature. This is Corruption and Malice incarnate. I do not know what it is, but it is both more Alien and older and more hateful than I am to you. You need to leave this forest now!"
"I can't leave Sakura behind," stated Naruto.
The fox was silent for a moment, snarling before the expression changed to more thoughtful. The cage and the seal had changed slightly, so perhaps? "There may be a way."
