Mischief Fragment - Wishcraft: Spiders [Episode 262936]

by Kestral

Naruto shook his head. One minute he was seeing sour and hearing green, and now he was trying not to throw up while resting on his hands and knees.

"Sakura," croaked Sasuke. He managed to stand up, but crouched over as he tried to steady himself. "Never do that again. Ever."

"Gkkk," managed Sakura, trying not to throw up herself. She slowly uncurled from the ball she'd instinctively curled up into. "Me?"

"You hitting the idiot closed the circuit he'd left open to keep that seal from activating," said Sasuke tiredly before finally managing to get himself fully upright. "Oh."

Naruto blinked and brought his head up, trying to bring the world into focus. One thing was clear - they were no longer in the classroom at the Academy. "What?"

The woods surrounding them looked dead, dry, skeletal. The only leaves visible were drifts of similar dry ones on the ground.

"We're not in the Academy anymore," noted Sakura. "What's all that white stuff?"

Naruto hobbled closer to one patch of the white fluffy stuff stretching from dead branch to dead branch, some so thick it almost looked like cotton. "Weird."

Snap.

"Spider web," said Sasuke with absolute certainty.

"It's too thick to be spider... oh hell," said Sakura as she glanced up and saw what Sasuke had just seen.

"Eh?" asked Naruto, seeing both of them staring at something and taking a look himself. "Oh."

The spider was easily Sakura's height in length. Then add the legs and it was considerably larger. Also hairier. With what looked to be eight eyes and mouth parts that opened in a manner that did NOT reassure the three twelve-year-olds.

"Uhm, anyone know any spider-go-away jutsu?" asked Naruto quietly.

The spider leapt, legs spread wide and hissing.

"GREAT FIREBALL JUTSU!" said Sasuke, breathing out a blast of flame that ascended and caught the spider half-way. It screeched and managed to land a few feet away instead of on them, now smouldering a bit.

"That was pretty cool," admitted Naruto. "Was it supposed to catch the trees on fire too?"

Sasuke glanced up. Spider web was flammable? Oh. No. It apparently melted or something. The dry wood, on the other hand, seemed to be catching fire rather easily.

There was suddenly a lot of hisses at their backs.

Naruto turned. "Oh. Crap."

"Let me guess, LOTS of giant spiders?" asked Sakura who wasn't inclined to look.

"Lots of pissed off giant spiders, half are bigger than the one Sasuke torched," noted Naruto.

"Run through the fire?" suggested Sakura.

"Plan," agreed Sasuke, charging forward.
